CAREERS

Congratulations Class of 2024

The Year 12 Class of 2024 returned to Berwick College on Friday, 7th February, for a morning tea get together.  They were able to catch up with their 2024 VCE teachers and Leaders, discuss their plans with each other, provide Destination Data information and were encouraged to reach out to the Careers team if they felt they needed further support.

Year 12 2025 – Federation University – Careers Session

All year 12 students attended Federation University on Wednesday, 29th January, for their Orientation Day into the final year of their schooling.  The Careers team conducted a Careers Education presentation with an expected outcome of students completing a Career Action Plan. The 'I Apply' Career Action Plan is an integral part of the Victorian Careers Curriculum as well as a compulsory requirement of the Department of Education.  This process is the beginning of several sessions that will be held across the year supporting our students transition from secondary school into further education, training or the workplace.

Year 11 2025 – Federation University – Careers Session.

Year 11 students spent the day at Federation University on Friday, 7th February, learning about the VCE and VCE VM programs and expectations.  During this day, the Careers team presented Career Education sessions based on 'I Decide' and students completed a Career Action Plan to support the learning outcomes of this session.  Further information will be provided across the year to support the student's investigation into careers and pathways.

Year 8 2025 – Class – Careers Session.

Career Education sessions for students in year 8, themed 'I Explore' will commence this term. These sessions will focus on the importance of building the skills and general capabilities they will need in the workplace; strengthening school and employer collaboration; and developing students' career management and navigation skills. Through these sessions students will be able to make informed decisions about their subjects/program and career options to assist them to build a connection between school and their future career pathway.

Years 7 and 9 – Careers Sessions.

Information about these important Careers Education Sessions will be provided later this term.

Vocational Educational and Training (VET)

2025 is fast becoming another exceptional year for our students in years 10 to 12 undertaking a VET course whilst at school (Certificate II or III in a TAFE/RTO setting or school conducting VET). Whilst VET is an integral part of the VCE VM program for students in years 11 and 12, we still have a large number of enrolments, approximately 250 of our senior students, signed up to a VET course.  The first day for VET was Wednesday, 5th February, either on campus at Berwick College or off campus at other institutions such as Chisholm Institute, Foundation Learning Centre, Skill-Invest, Casey College of Beauty Therapy and neighbouring schools.

Please note, any requests for changes to a VET course close at the end of February.

Students have enrolled in courses such as; Animal Care, Automotive, Beauty, Building, Business, Cookery, Engineering, Equine Studies, Early Childhood Education, Fitness, Health Services Assistance, Information, Digital Media & Technology, Salon Assistant (Hairdressing), Sport and Recreation and Visual Arts, to name a few.  In conjunction with the practical/hands-on approach to learning, students are required to complete the theory assessments to complement the practical learning to be deemed as competent for each unit within their VET Certificate.
