A special congratulations to Zoe W, Zoe C and George M for their result in the Tasmanian Science Talent Search Innovation Challenge. Zoe W placed first in the state in the Year 9/10 division and George and Zoe C placed second in the same division. They were recognised last night at a special ceremony at the University of Tasmania. Please see later in the newsletter for more details.
This is a special time of year as we begin a series of special events to mark significant milestones in the schooling journey for some of our students. We also host a series of end of year celebration events to recognise the wonderful effort and achievement.
Last week it was a delight to celebrate the end of the schooling journey for our Year 12 students and the end of a wonderful year for all Senior Secondary. As a small school with a strong community focus, many of our staff have strong connections to each of our Year 12 students and so feel as though they have walked with them through the past two years. Personally, it has been a delight to get to know them more deeply, watch them grow in confidence and assurance and see the bond between them strengthen.
Last night was our Year 6 Dinner and on Thursday we have our Year 10 Dinner. These are important milestones for students and families. A highlight is looking at the photos from when the student first started school until now. I love to see that while there are very obvious differences, there is also something very familiar in the images. I find the smile is often a give-away. Those with a cheeky grin in a Prep photo still have this reflected in their Year 6 or Year 10 photo. For those who are more shy, that is often still there.
As parents we see each of our children grow and change so much but there still remains a sense of them from when they were small little people through to when they are on the road to adulthood. I value seeing that each young person is so different; they are very much their own person.
This afternoon, it was a joy to be there for the Kinder to Year 2 Celebration Assembly. While each of the classes prepares thoroughly, there is always an element of spontaneity when working with little people that brings a smile. Whether it was playing their instrument, dancing or singing with extra gusto or the unstoppable urge to wave to every familiar face in the audience, I love to see little people embracing the moment. Thank you to our wonderful K-2 staff, both Teachers and Aides, for all the preparation for today.
Families are asked to monitor details of upcoming events on Schoolbox, Consent2Go and email, to ensure they know when students need to arrive at events and their uniform requirements.
