Principal's Views

Dear EVPS Families,

We have had a very busy two weeks at EVPS and there have been lots of exciting things happening in and around the school.

Last week, the whole school community got involved in Clean up Australia Day, which also involved our student leaders visiting the kinder to help out. You can read more about that later in this newsletter.

Celebrating International Women's Day 2025

Today at EVPS we celebrated International Women’s Day, staff wore a splash of purple and enjoyed some delicious cup cakes for morning tea.

We took the opportunity to celebrate and recognise the incredible women within our school community, our staff, students, and families who inspire, lead and contribute to the growth and wellbeing of those around them.

Imagine a world where everyone is treated equally, no matter their gender. A world where people are kind, fair, and welcoming to all. A place where our differences are celebrated!

Every year, on International Women’s Day (IWD), people around the world come together to support gender equality. This special day has been celebrated for over 100 years, and it reminds us to appreciate the achievements of women, stand up against unfair treatment, and work towards a fair future for everyone.

This year’s theme is #AccelerateAction, encouraging us all to take steps, big or small, to make a difference. Whether it’s learning about inspiring women in history, speaking up for fairness, or simply showing kindness and respect, every action counts.

Student Leaders Conference

On Tuesday, I had the privilege of attending the GRIP Leadership Conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, alongside 22 of our outstanding student leaders, Zac (Year 6 Team Leader) Robbyn (Year 6 Teacher/ Student Leadership) and Steve (Assistant Principal 5/6). You can read more about this in the dedicated page further in this newsletter...............

NAPLAN

Year 3 and 5 students at Epping Views Primary School will be participating in the NAPLAN testing starting on Wednesday 12th March, and concluding on Thursday 20th March. All sessions will take place in the morning. It is important for all students to have their own set of headphones for the Conventions of Language test, as there are audio prompts that students need to hear to successfully complete questions.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake.

As students progress through their school years, it is important to check how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy.

NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national proficiency standards.

NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.

NAPLAN also provides schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are achieving important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.

Community Hub

We are establishing a community hub at EVPS.

In 2024 we had walking groups, coffee chats and ceramics classes.

We would like to expand this into a community hub (onsite) and seek your suggestions and interest to come along.

Save the Date - Harmony Day Parade & Assembly

We will celebrate Harmony Day at EVPS on Thursday 20th March.

Students can wear cultural dress or orange and join in the Parade at 9.15am – parents/carers are welcome. More details to follow!

E-Scooters

We are still having challenges with safety around the school in relation to our students riding e-scooters. A reminder that all students at EVPS are by law, under the legal age to ride an e-scooter and we will not condone this behaviour, for the safety of everyone.

Penalties apply. Please ensure you read the information here:

https://transport.vic.gov.au/Road-rules-and-safety/E-scooter-road-rules

There is a $296 penalty if you ride an E-Scooter under the age of 16.

Monday 10th March is a Public Holiday. Enjoy the long weekend and we look forward to seeing you back at school on Tuesday.

Warm regards,

Rachel Griffiths, Acting Principal
