Around the Junior School

Year 3 - Chicken egg incubation

This term Year 3 have been learning about the life cycles of various animals and plants as part of our Living Things unit. In Week 4, we started the incubation process of eight chicken eggs in the hope that we can hatch some chickens and watch them grow and develop over the coming weeks. We have been monitoring the temperature and humidity of the incubator and learning about the optimum conditions required to successfully hatch our chickens. We have been recording data and observations as the incubation progresses and we have our fingers crossed that we have chickens joining us in Week 7 or 8!

Junior Art Room Spotlight - Year 5

This term Year 5 have been studying the works of First Nation's artist, Daniel Boyd. They have learnt about the Pointillist movement and how Boyd modernised this technique to explore themes related to his family and history. The students have created their own artworks using Boyd's methods and the subject matter of natural disasters to tie in with their Geography unit.

Students sketched their disaster, traced their lines with dots of PVA glue and finished off by adding colour using chalk pastels. A five weeklong artwork that has really paid off!

Clean Up Day

On Friday, the Junior School took part in the ‘Schools Clean Up Day’ as part of Clean Up Australia Day, 2025. All classes participated and jointly improved our beautiful school with their efforts. Our schools clean up on Friday was a great way to inspire our students to learn about the impact of rubbish on their local environments whilst playing an active role in their school. Each year, thousands of school students across Australia participate in’ Schools Clean Up Day’ to create a healthier environment for Australia and learn about ways to conserve our beautiful country.

So many of our parents and students mentioned how excited they were to be part of making our school environment a cleaner place. We are proud to have participated in this year’s school clean up and will be aiming to plan more throughout the year. Well done to everyone !

Pre-Kinder

On Wednesday 5 March, we celebrated all our work on colours in the previous weeks with a Colour Me Happy Day. The children were very excited to be bright, bold, and enjoyed stepping out of their uniform for the day. We shared a story Mix it Up about mixing primary colours together to see what they make then the children got to experiment and mix some colours themselves. Such a fun, happy colourful day.

SolarBuddy Project – Year 3 2025

On Tuesday 11th March Year 3 constructed Solar Buddy solar lights as part of their Term 1 Digital Technology program. The Solar Buddy program is committed to ending energy poverty by delivering sustainable, innovative solutions that bring light to children in need.

The students have been introduced to the United Nations Global Goals and discussed the importance of being a good global citizen. Each student in Year 3 constructed a solar light that will be donated to communities in need. These lights will be put together will the lights constructed by last year’s Year 3 group and sent back to the SolarBuddy organisation to send overseas to areas experiencing extreme energy poverty.

The SolarBuddy project associates superbly with the Round Square IDEALS. We are encouraging our students to think internationally, consider our environment and sustainable options and highlighting the value of serving others.
