Orange Chamber Music Festival

The Gala opening for the Orange Chamber Music Festival was held in the Derek Pigot Auditorium last Thursday, and featured performances by the Australian Chamber Orchestra Collective.  Kinross Wolaroi Thompson String Quartet (Isabel Wong and Bonnie McPhee (violin), Eli Cunningham (viola) and Lotte McLeod (‘cello) played in the foyer prior to the event, drawing an appreciative crowd.

“What was meant to be background music became the focal point of the audience as they entered.  It was lovely for the students to play for such an appreciative audience” Mrs Moxey

Cultured Youth Orchestra Project

The Cultured Youth Orchestra Project was part of the recent Orange Chamber Music Festival.  Members of the Kinross Wolaroi Orchestra joined with other advanced student musicians from across the Central West to perform a program of orchestral works composed by Australian composers.  Students put in a mammoth effort to prepare the repertoire for this concert, rehearsing on weekends and after school, supported by musicians from the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne University and the Australian Music Centre. The performance at Orange Civic Theatre on Saturday was very well received by large audience who attended.

Kinross Wolaroi would like to thank the board of the Orange Chamber Music Festival for the opportunity this event afforded our students. Performing Arts staff would like to thank Mrs Sharon Martin for the many hours spent organising logistics for rehearsals for this event.

Camerata Competition and Concert

Entries are now open for the annual Kinross Wolaroi Camerata Competition. Camerata is a performance competition for classical musicians that has a junior division (Years 7 – 10) and senior division (Years 11 – 12).

We encourage students at AMEB Grade 4 and above to enter the competition. The competition will be run during the school day on Wednesday 26 March in room 68.  All students who enter the competition are invited to perform at the Camerata Concert in the Performance Theatre on Friday 10 April 2025.

Camerata is an excellent opportunity for students to perform works they have been working on over the past year or new pieces they feel confident in performing.

Entries, which have been emailed to students, are due by 5pm on Friday 14 March. Please contact Mrs Lenton jolenton@kws.nsw.edu.au for further information.
