Music with Mrs Huf

The Students have been having a blast in Music with ensemble instrumentals, special guests, choir and music composition projects! Tuesday mornings are always jam packed!
Sam Faulkner Drum Workshop
Week 6 was a real highlight for us when Sam came in to give the students a run down of the parts of the drum kit and how to achieve a basic rock beat. Students took it in turns behind the kit testing it out and then we came together at the end of the session for a CPS jam with all students playing drums, body percussion or percussion instruments to the classic 'Smoke On The Water' riff. Sam then impressed the students with a drumming demonstration. Thanks Sam!
Kaboom Percussion
Students continued engaging their mind and bodies through Body Percussion and Drum Stick work from Kaboom Percussion. The Foundation and Year 1 students also began working on their rhythm and coordination in this program too which they're doing a fantastic job!
Magic Beach - A Music Composition Project
Students have been randomly put into groups to begin working on their end of Term Music Project. They are working collaboratively to compose a soundscape/song in response to a page from Alison Lester's book, Magic Beach. Year 4 & 6 students have been exploring the C, Am, F & G chord structure on the ukeleles & keyboard as Stay tuned for the results but there are lots of great brainstorming, arranging, exploring and playing going on!
Choir
Mrs Huf recently attended a professional development day in Melbourne with the Australian School of Performing Arts to further inform our school choir! She has already implemented particular strategies with the students to get them up out of their speaking voices and into their singing voices.
Students have been learning songs from different countries around the globe including Africa, England, Israel and Australia. They have been working towards more difficult skills such as part singing. Watch this space!
