Years 2 & 3
Congratulations to Year 3 on completing their first Naplan tests. The students showed a positive attitude towards this experience and gave their best efforts. Afterwards we focused on the fact that we now have something in common with every child in year 3 across Australia!
In English we have continued to read Fantastic Mr Fox and work through vocabulary and sentence writing tasks in relation to the text. We have continued to work on oral reading fluency and explore word families and types of sentences. We enjoyed a shared reading of The day the crayons quit and identified different types of persuasive language within it.
In Maths we have continued working on odd and even numbers, and had a lovely shared session with F-1 making odd or even robots. We have also had a focus on maths language, learning and reviewing the difference between splitting collections into groups, equal groups, and groups of. We also have examined the equals sign as a symbol of equivalence as opposed to a signal for computation. This was explored through an online 'pan balance' activity that was very popular! Students quickly took this to a level I wasn't expecting in creating their equations of equivalence.
