A Fantastic Finish to Our Gymnastics Program!

Over the past five weeks, our Foundation to Grade 2 students have had an incredible time participating in the Launchpad Gymnastics Program, delivered in partnership with Gymnastics Australia and Leongatha Gymnastics Club. From the very first session to the final tumble, it’s been amazing to see our Foundation - Grade 2 students grow in confidence, coordination, and skill.

Throughout the program, students developed a range of fundamental gymnastics skills, including balancing, jumping, rolling, landing, and swinging. Each session was filled with excitement as they challenged themselves on different equipment, learned new techniques, and most importantly, had a whole lot of fun!

A huge thank you to April, Lily, and Lily from Leongatha Gymnastics Club for their fantastic support and guidance throughout the program. Their expertise and enthusiasm made every session engaging and enjoyable for our students, and we truly appreciate their collaboration.

We loved every moment of this program and look forward to more gymnastics fun in the future!

News from the Music Room

All Music classes are finishing off a very hands-on Term 1, focussed on playing different musical instruments and learning about the instrument families.

Assembly performances

Every assembly at Trafalgar Primary School starts with a student musical act. The students choose their songs and practice in the music studio at recess and lunch. The bands are formed by the students themselves. Their performances are self-motivated with preparations only guided by Mr Allan and the instrumental teachers. Here are this term’s performers and some photos.

Choir

Our TPS choir is up and running again this year.

We meet every Thursday, second half of lunch (2PM).

During the year we will work on songs that will be performed at assemblies, instrumental concerts and finally, the Trafalgar Carols.

You don't need any singing experience. It costs nothing. You don't need to sign up. Just attend regularly.

Some of the choir students are currently putting signs up around the school that they made themselves.

Instrumental music program

Our 4 dedicated instrumental teachers have been working very hard in Term 1 giving individualised music instrument lessons to all the students in the program.

The program is nearly full so if you still want to be part of the program get your form in ASAP.

You can find a full description of the instruments we offer, photos and bios of all the teachers, and a digital instrumental music form here - TPS Music site/Instrumental. You can also get a form from the front office, or just outside the Music Room at the Instrumental form box. Return it to the front office or into the box and we can start lessons as soon as possible.

STEM Update

Thank you to everyone who came along to the assembly last week where we released our beautiful Monarch butterflies into the wild. They are already missed in the STEM classroom but the whole experience from caterpillar to release was amazing and certainly appreciated by the students and staff.

Can you tell the difference between a male and female?

Since last Friday I have spotted them around Traf on 4 different occasions. Have you seen any around?

Prep to Grade 2 have been learning about water pollution and how plants take up water from soil through their roots. We turned white flowers into a rainbow of coloured flowers and are spending the week observing our water pollution - celery investigation. We also made bird seed cakes to attract native wildlife to the school grounds.

Grade 3 and 4 have been learning about the features of plants, in particular the structure and purpose of flowers in nature. We have also investigated the process of pollination and seed dispersal and how this connects to the physical features of bugs and insects.

Grade 5 and 6 have been learning about Charles Darwin's theory of evolution - survival of the fittest - through simulation activities. We are currently learning about microorganisms and the role they play in our environment.

Looking forward to finding out if our hypothesis were correct!

Yours in STEM education,

Mrs B.

Breakfast Club

It has been wonderful to welcome students and families back to Breakfast Club this term!  We have had so many students visit us in the mornings for delicious toasties, cereals and milos to help kick start their learning day.  We are so thankful for the many generous food donations provided by the community and from our sponsors - Foodbank, IGA Trafalgar, Bakers Delight Mid Valley and Gracie’s Bakery.

Due to these donations, Breakfast Club continues to be able to support families through the provision of Care Packages.  We remind families that our Traf Pantry can be found in the Gym Foyer and continues to be stocked with many excellent products, available to anyone - and they’re free!  If you would like to receive a Care Package or know of a family who may benefit, feel free to drop into our School Office, see Mrs Burns or Mrs Marslen.

Donations of Jam and Milo needed, please!

Thank you again to all families who have generously donated tins of Milo to our Breakfast Club.  Any extra donations of Milo, as well as jam would be greatly appreciated to support our school community!

Looking forward to seeing you for brekky!

Harmony Day – Celebrating Respect and Belonging

Friday 21st February was Harmony Day – a special day where we recognise and embrace the diversity that makes our school community so vibrant and unique. Harmony Day is all about inclusiveness, respect and creating a sense of belonging for everyone, no matter their cultural background.

At Trafalgar Primary School, we believe that every student should feel safe, included and respected. This links closely with our work on the Attitudes to School Survey, where students have told us how important it is to feel connected to their peers and supported by their teachers.   Celebrating days like Harmony Day helps build that strong sense of belonging and reinforces our school values: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Learner.
