5/6 News
What a week we have had for our Swimming week, the weather really turned it on for us. Our students displayed our values beautifully during the week walking to the pool and whilst at the pool. We finished the swimming week off with our House Sports swimming carnival, our 2025 House Captains got to put their leadership skills to the test and showed us why they were voted for this position.
Don't forget to book your Getting to Know You Interviews on Compass, this is a great opportunity for parents to meet classroom teachers and discuss goals and share any important information.
Please remember that families are always welcome to pop in to say hello and to see our classrooms before and after school.
House Captains
Congratulations to our House Captains who were voted into these leadership positions by their peers and staff. We cannot wait to see what you all can do in your leadership journey whilst in these roles. Our House Captains have already been put straight to work, organising and co-ordinating students and events at our ˙House Sports Swimming Carnival.
Literacy
This past fortnight students have finished off the unit on Narrative writing and have moved onto Persuasive texts in preparation for NAPLAN. To break up their writing blocks we have also used the "Show, Don't Tell" strategy which is a popular writing technique used to engage readers by allowing them to experience the story through sensory details, actions, and emotions, rather than simply telling them what's happening. It encourages writers to paint vivid pictures with words that allow readers to interpret and feel the scene rather than just being informed about it. Have a read of one of our Grade 5 students first attempts at using this technique:
Oh no its here, the day I have to look my best and act my best. This day is feeling like it is never going to end, how is this supposed to be a good day!! WOAH this color is way to bright, people will be able to see me in the dark. OWWW this hurts, why does stretching hurt so much. OMG there are lot's of eyes looking at me right now, my body starts to shake. I tell myself I've got this, out I go, there is smiles and clapping. I take a bow it is over, I DID IT!!

National Young Leaders Day - Melbourne
A reminder to our Grade 6 students, we will be heading down to Melbourne very early on Monday morning to go to the National Young Leaders Day.
We will be leaving promptly at 5:30 from the carpark (I would recommend students arrive from 5:15am onwards as Mrs Pridham will be there waiting). They will need to bring snacks, lunch and a drink bottle (or 2) in their school bags. I would recommend their school jackets or jumpers and a pillow but these are optional. If your child gets travel sickness, please let Mrs Pridham know so they can get a seat at the front of the bus and if they take medication before they board, please also supply some for Mrs Pridham to administer before returning home. This will need to be in a clearly labelled snap lock bag with the child's name and dosage written on the front and given to Mrs Pridham in the morning.
Students will not need technology for this day and we ask that they do not bring lollies.
We will keep our families up to date, via Facebook as to the expected time we will return once we are out of Melbourne but we are anticipating around 5:30pm.
See you all bright and early.
