Welcome Picnic
A great turn out to our Welcome picnic for 2025.
What a fantastic turnout for our annual welcome school picnic! We were fortunate to have pleasant weather, creating the perfect atmosphere to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
On such a balmy evening, it was wonderful to see parents mingling, and students playing so happily. A special mention to Theircare for sponsoring and buying the icy poles for the night. We also extend our gratitude to our wonderful parent volunteers, led by Paul.
Events like the annual school picnic bring our school community together, providing families with a chance to connect and strengthening our culture of inclusivity and belonging.
Another memorable picnic for all! Thank you to everyone who joined us.
PARENT - TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Parent–Teacher discussions will be held on Tuesday 11th March for Grades 3-6 and Wednesday 12th March for F-2
Interviews will commence at 1:00pm with the final interview held at 6:30pm.
The parent teacher interviews offers parents and teachers an opportunity to share information pertinent to the student’s educational and social-emotional progress. Interviews are strictly 10 minutes long, so we encourage parents to think about the information you would like to share with the teacher beforehand.
NAPLAN Testing 2025
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program- Literacy & Numeracy) is taking place for Years 3 & 5 students in weeks 7 and 8 this term. NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment, that allows parents and schools to see how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy, against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. The data from NAPLAN is one of the tools that teachers use to understand your child’s progress and plan for their teaching and learning.
School Council
Thank you to the parents who have nominated to be on School Council for 2025. We still have one vacancy for a School Community Member. Please let me know if this is of interest to you.
Saturday 8th March is International Women’s Day
and this year’s theme is “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” This is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the role of women across our school and education more broadly. We are fortunate to have so many strong women and girls at Wales Street leading from the front to ensure we are all playing our role to unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all.
School Nurse: At Wales Street, the health and well-being of our students are of the utmost importance. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the essential role of our school nurse and how Suzi contributes to the safety, care, and development of our children. Her core responsibilities include:
- Providing first aid and emergency care for students and staff.
- Managing chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies.
- Administering prescribed medications as needed during school hours.
- Offering support for students with special medical needs or accommodations.
- Providing education to staff and community about medical issues
She is visited frequently by students who do not need to see her, and this is taking her away from her core responsibilities. The junior school were reminded at assembly this morning that the students must always see a teacher on yard duty before going in to see Suzi. We also have a rising number of students coming to the first aid room with an injury that happened a number of days ago at home. We are endeavouring to minimise this foot traffic into the first aid room so we ask for your support with this.
