Burnie School Captains

So far this year, we have already enjoyed three major events: the Dedication Service, the Athletics Carnival and the Welcome BBQ, along with many other amazing moments in between.
To start the year, we had a Dedication Service at the Ulverstone campus. We celebrated the achievements of the Year 12 students and their hard work; then we stood together to praise God through a powerful series of songs performed by the Ulverstone Secondary band. Afterward, we sat down to listen to Sam Miles, a former Leighland student and local pastor, who dedicated our year to God with an inspiring speech and a heartfelt prayer over the school. We deeply appreciated this and felt it was a wonderful way to begin the year.
The next event we took part in was the Athletics Carnival where house colors ran, jumped and threw for their team to win. There was amazing sportsmanship shown at the Athletics Carnival and it was nice to see everyone watching the racers run and cheering on their team colours. Wesley took out first place with a wonderful score of 1354; in second was Luther with a large score of 1087 and last but not least was Carey with 1026 points.
Next, we had the Welcome BBQ, which was a fun way to reconnect with everyone. There were sausages in bread, veggie burgers, soft drinks, and for the kids, icy poles, and cake afterwards. After the BBQ, everyone headed up to the Ark, where the Year 5/6 students led a variety of activities to show our school values. These included making bracelets with kind words, creating bookmarks with memory verses, and taking part in other fun activities that reminded us of how we should behave at Leighland Christian School in a fun and playful way.
It was a great afternoon filled with laughter and learning! To finish off the event, parents had the chance to join an information session about the SIMON program, where they could learn more and ask questions.
We have had an amazing start to Term 1 of 2025 and are excited for the rest of the term and the year ahead.
