Assistant Principal Report

Dear Highvale Families,
It’s hard to believe how quickly Term 1 has flown by! It feels like only yesterday we were welcoming students back to school, and now we find ourselves just a few short weeks away from the holidays.
This term has been a fantastic one, with students making incredible progress across all areas of learning. We have seen strong academic growth, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy, as students build their skills and confidence each day. Teachers have been working hard to support and challenge every learner, and it’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm for learning in our classrooms.
Parent Helpers and Volunteers at HPS
At Highvale Primary School, we value the contributions of families that volunteer their time to support their children's education and development. There are many ways to volunteer as a parent helper, including assisting in the classroom, within the library, assisting with interschool sports days, on excursion or attending camp. Please note that a current Working with Children Check is required, along with the completion of our school’s volunteer induction and training program.
The Parent Volunteer Training & Induction session will be held on Tuesday 25th March at 9:15am in the staff room (enter via the doors of the main building closest to the car park). There is no need to register! Along with the necessary training information, attendees will also be provided with an induction pack and necessary forms. Once the training is complete, parent helpers will officially begin in Term 2.
Wellbeing and Respectful Relationships
At Highvale PS, we know that wellbeing is just as important as achievement. Our teachers have been focusing on helping students develop key social and emotional skills, including resilience, kindness, and self-awareness. Through class discussions and activities and Respectful Relationships lessons, students are learning the importance of looking after their own wellbeing and supporting those around them.
Throughout Term 1, students across all levels of the school learnt about the topics Emotional Literacy and Personal and Cultural Strengths. During weekly lessons, students developed their understanding of different emotions, how they look and sound, and what causes these emotions. They also learnt about identifying strengths within themselves and others and the importance of respecting and valuing difference.
Supporting Our Families – Parent Zone Newsletter
Parenting in the 21st century brings immense joy and rewarding moments, but it also comes with its fair share of challenges. While we teach our students about wellbeing, we also recognise that the wellbeing of our families is just as important.
Did you know that Anglicare Victoria publishes a newsletter each term called Parent Zone, which provides valuable news and information on programs and services designed to support parents across the eastern region of Victoria? This publication includes a range of free information sessions and webinars covering the many aspects of raising children, as well as details about parenting support, programs for children and youth groups, podcasts, and useful contact details for support services.
To take advantage of these fantastic resources, simply access the latest edition of Parent Zone, by clicking on the link below.
With the holidays just around the corner, we look forward to finishing Term 1 on a high note and heading into the break with a sense of achievement and excitement for the term ahead!
Enjoy the rest of your week.
Kind regards,
Kelly Soccio
