HARMONY DAY THANK YOU
A huge thank you to our families and parents who gave up their time to prepare and share delicious food and recipes from their culture on Monday for Harmony Day.
We got to try Colombian arepas, Vietnamese wontons and spring rolls, Malaysian and Sri Lanka sweets, Lebanese beans and pita bread, dips and bread and fried rice!
If you have read the Classroom News section you would see that many of the children's favourite activity on Harmony Day was involving making wontons and pizzelle with parents Monica, Kristine, Christina and Lisa and also our multi talented LSO Rose-Lee. Thank you to these wonderful people for making the day so special for our students! Also thanks to the parents who gave up their time to help with the art and sport activities.
Wellbeing Initiative for families: MEAL BANK
We would like to begin a new initiative at Sacred Heart in Term 2 - where families that are able to provide a meal for a family in our school community, can prepare something (or purchase) and drop it in to school for those in need.
We will freeze meals or provide fresh (if time allows) to any family at Sacred Heart that may need a meal or two.
Meals would go to families that we may know of needing a little extra support, those that may have been experiencing illness or a death in the family or perhaps a new baby....whatever the need, they could access a meal from our Sacred Heart Food Bank.
Please let me know if you are interested/able to donate a meal and I will organise some parent volunteers to assist me in coordinating the food bank.
Thank you to those who have already reached out to support others in our community with this Food Bank initiative - it is greatly appreciated.
TRIPLE P PARENTING
We recently received some information about an initiative with Darebin council and Triple P Parenting that may be of interest to parents.
Fear-Less Triple P supports parents to learn new strategies for managing their child’s anxiety. This group is for parents that are concerned about their child’s anxiety that would like to learn strategies they can put in place to support the wellbeing of their child and the family. Content is suited to parents or caregivers of children aged from 6 to 12 years.
Caritas Project Compassion
Third Week of Lent
(Week beginning Monday 24 March)
Lam is 27 years old from a small village in rural Vietnam who faced significant challenges due to his short stature. Growing up, Lam often felt isolated due to limited job opportunities and difficulty moving around his community. While his friends started jobs after high school, Lam stayed home with his parents, unsure if he could ever achieve his dream of becoming a graphic designer.
Everything changed when Lam joined the I-SHINE program, supported by Caritas Australia. Through this initiative, Lam completed a six-month course developing his graphic design skills. Along the way, he built confidence, made friends and gained a sense of connection.
Today, Lam runs a successful freelance graphic design business from home, serving clients worldwide and earning a steady income. Lam hopes his story will encourage other young people with disabilities to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams.
Lam’s journey shows how your support of Project Compassion empowers individuals to break barriers and transform their lives. Watch Lam’s story here
You can support Project Compassion 2025 through the donation boxes at school or by scanning the QR code.
Take Care,
Kate
