Buddy Mass

Thanks to everyone who attended our class Mass this week, in which the Foundation kids were joined by their buddy from Year 5/6. After Mass, the children had some play together on the Adventure playground. By the look of the smiles, I think they enjoyed it!

Numeracy

We are now finishing up Term 1 work, yet the students remain focused on learning new things. Each day they participate in what is called 'Daily Review', where they have a short 5-10 minute session going over concepts previously taught.  The children use whiteboards and markers to show their understanding. They know the language of 'Park It', 'Chin It' and 'Bin It'. They love their Maths time.

Year One

Celebrating Harmony Day in Year One

Harmony Day was so much fun! We celebrated all the different cultures in our school by sharing stories, food, and activities. We wore our cultural clothes and orange to show that we are all united in kindness and respect. We learned about different traditions, danced, and created beautiful artwork. It was a wonderful day to celebrate how we are all unique but still belong together as part of the Sacred Heart school community.

A huge thank you to all the parents and friends who helped make the day so special!

Year 2/3

Hello Families,

A huge thank you to all the parents and friends that attended and helped out this week for Harmony Day. We all had a blast cooking, eating, enjoying sport and dancing in the afternoon. Enjoy the photos.

Year 3/4

Mercy College Visit.

On the 20th of March the Year 4 girls went to Mercy College. When we got on the bus we met our old friend Eva! We all gasped because we missed her. When we got to the College we were put into groups. I was put in the orange group with two of my friends.

My friends and I got to do music, three Year 11 girls wrote a song and performed it for us. Soooo good! Then we played some instruments that we had to beat.

Then we had snack time, there were Oat bars, apples, bananas and muffins. I took a chocolate muffin and it was soooo yummy!

After this we did food tech, we made Jam Drop biscuits. My biscuits were a bit uncooked sadly, but it’s fine, they were still good and soft.

Then we did drama. We played games and danced.

Finally we had lunch, we had sausages with bread of course. Then we went back to school.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day was very fun. Everyone at Sacred Heart loved it. I loved it.

First me and my group went to the multipurpose room to do cooking. I got the spring roll and the Italian biscuit - Pizzelle. Then we went to Art, where we made a little hand or human. I picked the human and used markers only. Then I participated in sports. We played a Filipino game called Sipa and then another game.

Harmony Day rotations were pretty good. At the end we had the cultural dancing. Also the parade was pretty good too.

Yesterday at Harmony Day we had so much fun!

First we did the cultural dress parade and it was amazing!

Then we did some rotations. My favourite was when we were tasting Vietnamese wontons; they were sooo delicious! I also liked the sports activities as well. We learnt about a sport called Marngrook. It is basically like AFL but the ball was made of possum skin and burnt charcoal, the winner got to keep the ball and take it home.

The last activity we did was the multicultural dance called Street Dance. There was a dance called rice and peas, which I didn’t really like (No offence Jamaica). Then we did a dance from Ghana and then a dance from America called Hip Hop.

Wow! What a wonderful day we had yesterday for Harmony Day at Sacred Heart! It was really fun.

First I went cooking, oh and what I did for cooking was making an Italian biscuit called “Pizzelle”. It was delicious. We had something else with the Pizzelle, so I had a sweet white coconut dessert, IT WAS SO DELICIOUS!

Next, I participated in some Art. For Art we had to colour, write or put fabric on a human or a hand. I did a hand.

Finally, I got to do Sports. We played a Filipino game called Sipa. How to play: there is an item that has a coin at the bottom and a hairy head at the top. So we had to be in a circle and use our hands or feet to put the item on other hands or feet. We played another game, it was from Chile. You have a scarf that you put on another person and then that person chases you around a circle and you sit down.

It was a really good Harmony Day.

Yesterday was Harmony Day and we did lot’s of fun stuff, we cooked, did art and we did dancing.

First we did Art with Deb in the Italian room. We made our person from our country. I did China because I am from China. We used wool and colouring pencils and fabric to make our person.

Then we cooked in the staff room and we made wontons and spring rolls. We tried it and also the Pizzelle. It was so yum, I got food and I couldn't finish my lunch at all!

Finally, we did dancing from Cat and did three dances and turned it into one whole dance. It was a bit hard but it was so fun.

It was so fun seeing different peoples' cultures and doing the activities. All of the stuff was so amazing but when I went home I was so tired.

Wow! I had a great day yesterday, for Harmony Day at Sacred Heart.

First I went to cooking. We tried Vietnamese food. It was the most yummy food ever. Secondly I went to Art. We made ourselves but with our cultural dress or suit. Finally I went to sports, we played football. Marty was teaching us a game that was older than us.

It was a GREAT DAY!

Harmony day was the best day ever. My favourite activities were eating delicious Wontons and making people in Art. We had different cultural foods such as a Mongolian coconut dessert, Colombian Arepas, Italian biscuit Pizzelle and Irish fruitcake. I didn’t like any of those, but I loved the Wontons and the coconut dessert.

My group was group 6 and they were Mohammed, Romeo, Avatea, Tahiva, Zach, Arvin, Viraj, Aylah, Massie, Maxie, Guan Huai, Samantha, Jasmine, Esther and me.

This all happened at my favourite school, Sacred Heart Primary School in Preston.

Harmony day.

I made Italian biscuits, after we all went outside. Then we all had a party for Emma and Mia’s birthday.

Then the whole school went into the multipurpose room and learnt dances from different countries.

All or most people liked it at Sacred Heart. The music was not good for me. Then it was home time everyone was tired and all went home. The End.

Yesterday I had a great day because it was Harmony Day. The school did different activities. My group's first activity was Art in the Art room. There was a choice between a little human or a little hand. Everyone chose the little human to decorate. After Art we did Sport, we played 2 games with Amanda. The first one was the Filipino game Sipa. After Sipa we played a game like Duck Duck Goose. After Sport there was food to eat and one of the foods was the oldest food in the world, made by the Italians. They were delicious.

Harmony Day.

It was a good day. First we had the parade. Next we were just doing some normal work. Then we did activities. Cat taught us how to do some cultural dances. My favourite thing was the parade because I liked walking around in the square. My least favourite thing was the dancing because dancing is boring and not entertainment.

A very big thank you to all the parents who helped out in the different activities especially in the cooking classes.

Year 4/5

This Monday, the Year 4/5 students had a fantastic time participating in our Harmony Day celebrations. The day was filled with exciting multi-age group activities, including sports, cooking and art, where students worked together, learned from each other and celebrated cultural diversity. In the afternoon, we had a lively dance incursion, where the students explored and enjoyed dances from various cultures around the world. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to embrace inclusivity, teamwork and global traditions, and we are so proud of the enthusiasm and respect our students showed throughout the day!

Harmony Day at Sacred Heart means representing all cultures and dressing up in your cultural costumes. And if you don’t have a cultural costume for Harmony Day, you could put on some orange clothes. Year 5/6

Year 5/6 Leaders attend St. Patrick's Day Mass last Friday

School Leaders (Aleisha, Roman, Isabella & Allie), Social Justice Captains (Stephanie & Gail) and SRT Class Reps (Shamus & Cody)

That looks like Marty's brother!
That looks like Marty's brother!

On Friday last week, the school leaders, SRT’s and Social Justice captains went to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in the city. The mass started at 10:15am and it was a totally new experience for us. The cathedral was MASSIVE! (It was like 100 times bigger than our church) and there were 300 schools there. There was a lot of singing and the bread was as big as a 20 cent coin. Anyway, the actual mass was a very spiritual mass and a very populated mass. After the mass, we walked to the Fitzroy Gardens to eat our recess, there were high school bands singing, ball games and board games. Finally, on our way back to the station we went to 7 Eleven and got some stuff like slushy, ice-cream or some lollies (FYI everybody got something). We had a FANTASTIC time and we will never forget this experience!

Allie and Roman

On Friday, the leadership team, Social Justice Captains and Year 5/6 SRTs went to St. Patrick’s Cathedral to have a special mass for St. Patrick’s Day. We took the train from Bell Station to Parliament Station and walked a bit further to reach the cathedral. We were there with around 300 different catholic schools, secondary and primary. After the mass, we made our way to a park nearby where there was music which the high school bands played. There were different songs and everyone vibed to them. Afterwards, we went to Seven Eleven to get a snack while waiting for the train. Once we finished eating we got on the train and made our way back to school.

Isabella and Aleisha

On Friday, eight students from 5/6 got invited to a very special event. The event invites all the Melbourne Catholic schools. The celebration commences in the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. Before the mass started, we had a big procession where a few people from each school brought their school banners up to the front of the Cathedral! After that, the priests walked down the aisle and the choir from the other schools! But what we’re trying to say is the mass was one in a million! We really loved this excursion, and we as leaders hope to impact our school in a good way! (of course).

Gail and Stephanie

Last Friday, we went to St. Patrick's Day mass with other schools to celebrate Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools’ Catholic Education Week. It was very fun there with some high school bands playing music for us and the train ride was very awesome. The church was massive and there were over 300 schools there. We couldn't believe how many people were there! There was also free water we got after the mass. It was an enjoyable time especially when we got snacks and drinks from 7-Eleven.
