 Dear Sacred Heart Community,

Embracing the Light of God's Love

Dear Lord,

During this Fourth Week of Lent, renew in us a sense of hope and joy, remembering the promise of the Resurrection. Help us live more fully in the light of Christ's love and grow closer to You each day.

Amen.

My Last Principal's Report For School Advisory Board

School Board Meeting - Tuesday 25th March 2025

Principal’s Report

As I write my last Principal’s Report for our School Board, I am reminded of the first Board meeting I attended in October 2017 upon being appointed Principal of Sacred Heart in the September. The meeting was advertised as an opportunity for parents to meet “the new principal”. I arrived early, the two board representatives who were on the selection panel were not in attendance at this early stage. There was no leadership from the current staff to introduce me. As I sat waiting for the meeting to commence making small talk, a couple of the parents (Averyl and Dani) asked which student I was the parent of. Upon introducing myself as the new principal there was much surprise (to this day I don’t know whether good or not so good!).

My overwhelming feeling at this early stage was however one of an inclusive welcoming community I was to become part of. After the initial shock of the new principal, I was greeted with warmth, a genuine interest in “my story” and an awareness of a keen desire for Sacred Heart to be the best school for its students, the children of these parents.

The type of parents I met in 2017, have continued to be the characteristics of the parents of our Sacred Heart students these last eight years. Sacred Heart is unique for its culture of staff and parents working with trust and a sense of collaboration to ensure the best outcomes for our students. Putting up the photos from yesterday’s Harmony Day on the school’s Instagram page, I was not in the least bit surprised this culture was at the forefront of yesterday’s activities, a culture that will continue to be Sacred Heart’s DNA. Yesterday’s Harmony Day was so like each and every celebration of school life these past eight years.

Whilst in no way inflating my role in the Sacred Heart culture, I was asked by some parents if my leaving would somehow affect the culture upon which they had based their decision to choose Sacred Heart for their children.

A new principal whoever he or she shall be, will bring new knowledge, ideas and vision. That is what is so exciting about change and why it is so important for any organisation. To not strive for improvement means to stagnate. However, as I have said to parents these past few weeks, what is at the very essence of what makes Sacred Heart Primary School such a special place will not change. It is the students and their families that will remain a constant and make the future of our school so comforting and exciting.
