From the Principal

Mr Matt Elson

Hello Gympie, East parents, carers and community,

We are working hard on completing assessments over the next two to three weeks. It is really important that students are not away from school unless absolutely necessary and that they are in a positive mindset when they arrive at school. Things like having a good night sleep, having a healthy breakfast and a calm morning all positively contribute to how well they can focus at school.

We will begin training for our upcoming athletics carnival (if it ever stops raining). Starting next week, multiple staff will give up their lunchtimes to hold field event training so please ask your students to keep their ear out for when they are on. Mrs Stephens is also working hard on track and field during her H&PE lessons. A reminder that our athletics carnival consists of two days. The first is 200m, 800m and ball games and this takes place on Wednesday 25th June. The ball games will start at 2pm and parents are welcome to come and watch, and possibly join in in the students v staff v parents at the end. Our major day is Thursday 26th June which will be all day and will be with sprints before moving into field events for older students and modified field events for our juniors. We will end the day with sprint finals and relays. Parents are very welcome on this day and we will have food operating through the P&C.

PBL

Our focus for this week has been ‘Have a growth mindset’. This is especially important as we are actively working on and finalising assessment for our end of semester report cards. Our aim is for students to learn from mistakes, be resilient and be able to persevere through tasks even when facing difficulties. Our PBL focus for Week 7 will be to ‘Stay within boundaries'. Every year it is important to ensure students understand where they can play safely within the school grounds.

Thanks

Mr Matt Elson
