Celebrating Cultural Harmony
On Friday 21March we will be celebrating Harmony Week.
‘Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds.
It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.’
Did you know that 24 different languages are represented at LEPS?
And that 48.7% of our students speak a language other than English at home?
The diversity of our community is one of the things I have always loved about LEPS especially since I feel my cultural background is a little boring. The most exciting thing in my background was one of my great, great, great, great, great grandfathers was transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in 1853 for stealing 3 half crowns (approximately $1.50)!
I feel we can learn a lot about each others' cultures and this can help us become more respectful and caring towards each other. With this in mind, the Cyber Action Leaders have planned a wonderful activity for all the classes so we can unpack and celebrate our incredible diversity.
The Cyber Leaders have also planned for the students to come dressed up on our celebration day - Friday 21 March. Students can come dressed in:
orange (the official Harmony Day colour)
their cultural clothes
or the colours of their country's flag.
This is a FREE event for our students. We look forward to sharing photos from the day and samples of the students' work after our celebration on the 25th.
Annual General Meeting
Members of the community are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 25 March at 5:30pm in the staffroom.
This meeting is the formal opportunity for us to share the Annual Report with the community. The report details our progress academically against specific targets, compares our survey data to those of the state and how we are tracking financially. The meeting normally runs for approximately 30 minutes.
Once the report has been endorsed by the Department of Education, it will be shared with the community via our website.
School Council Meeting
Our first School Council meeting with the newly elected school councillors will take place after the Annual General Meeting. I would like to formally welcome the following parents and staff to the 2025 School Council:
Parents | Department Staff | |
---|---|---|
Carly Georgakopoulos | Emma Thomason | Scott Duncan |
Crystal Irineos | Simone Lewis | Bev Ashley |
Rachel Wilson | Mona Magbel | Grace Macintosh |
A huge thank you for your wonderful contribution to our school to the following parents and staff who are stepping down from School Council :
Tina Robinson, Gojko Mitrovic, Ajshe Rushiti, Shona McCulloch and Julie Gatt.
Without your willingness to give up your Tuesday evenings, the school would not be able to run the way it is supposed to.
Tina completed five years on School Council and is only stepping down now to pursue studies opportunities which focus on building strong connections in communities.
Easter Raffle - Please donate
We are currently asking for donations to our Easter Raffle. Each class will have their own raffle prize created by the donations from that class. There will also be a couple of other raffle prizes which all purchased tickets will be entered in for a chance to win.
All money raised is being allocated to the library refurbishment project.
You can support our school fundraising efforts by sending items for the raffle hampers and/or purchasing raffle tickets.
