GRIP Student Leadership Conference

Miss Halliwell and Mrs Hastings took the four 2025 Year 6 School Captains to the GRIP Student Leadership Conference at the Melbourne Conventions Centre on Tuesday 2nd March. They participated in activities to improve their role as school leaders. The topics and content covered in the conference focused on areas our students can action and implement RIGHT NOW!
A recount of the day by Jennica, Thierry, Ethan and Alexa
Our day at the GRIP Student Leadership Conference started early. We woke up at 6:30am and got to school before anyone else, which was a little scary. We split into two cars to head to the train station. After a 40-minute train ride and a short walk, we finally arrived at the conference, and it was HUGE! There were over 3,700 students from around 200 schools, and we found our seats, ready to start the day.
The hosts introduced us to different leadership topics and got us involved in fun activities. One of the biggest things we learned was that being a leader isn’t just about following rules but it’s about taking responsibility and setting an example for others. We also talked about how conversations are often more effective than just giving instructions. The games and challenges helped us understand leadership in a fun way, and it was great to see so many students all learning together.
After the conference, we made a quick stop at 7-Eleven for a Slurpee before heading back to school. It was such an exciting and inspiring experience, and we can’t wait to bring our new leadership skills back to ARPS!
