BE INVOLVED, BE CONNECTED
Our students have settled into Year 3; embracing their new classrooms and working with their peers and teachers to create fostering, supportive spaces for all. We began our unit of Passions this term looking at ways to fill our classmates buckets; spreading kindness, empathy and respect for each other. As the week progressed, teachers noticed children’s joy as they walked past and observed some new affirmations filling up in their buckets.
The Year 3’s have begun their 3/4 Sport. This term students have an opportunity to learn new sports and the skills that come with it. Students have been enjoying Tee Ball, Lacrosse, Netball and team building games.
What’s Happening in Grade 2s?
In Curiosity, the Grade 2s have been focusing on the line of inquiry: ‘Understanding my own and other emotions, helps me to develop and keep relationships’. This week, we focused on what makes us upset and happy and the regulation strategies we could use to ensure we’re in the Green Zone.
One activity entailed students identifying what upsets them at school, to which they participated in a Yarning Circle to share their feelings. It was pleasing to see how respectful students were to each other and understood the differing viewpoints! We all agreed that communicating our concerns is the best way to ensure we prevent any conflict in our Grade 2 space! At times, we may not be aware that our behaviour is triggering another student in our classroom. The Yarn that we completed in our classes brought a deeper sense of belonging and unity for how we treat each other.
