BE INVOLVED, BE CONNECTED

SCOOTER RACKS

You might have noticed that we’ve been tying up the scooters each day, to keep them safe. I appreciate your patience as we source a more efficient solution (thank you Steve Shaw!) and ask that you remind your child to take their helmet into their classroom. It’s wonderful to see so many kids riding, scooting and walking to school each day!

NAPLAN

The NAPLAN tests for years 3 and 5 will commence on Wednesday, 12th March. If you have any questions or concerns about your child sitting the tests, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, via the school email.

EXCURSION DAY – THURSDAY, 13TH MARCH

Families, can you please ensure that you’ve given consent for the up-coming excursion day on Compass. We are finalising departure locations at St Vincent’s Garden and will clarify drop off times and locations next week.

THEIRCARE

This week, we welcomed our new TheirCare Coordinator, Ebony, to SMPPS. Ebony exhibits passion, warmth and experience and I look forward to seeing her positive influence on the OSHC program. Thank you, once again, to Jackson and Leticia for doing a wonderful coordination job in the interim.

VOLUNTEERS & ALLIED HEALTH

I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude to our Assistant Principal, Sam Smrekar Thompson, for the countless hours she has dedicated to establishing essential processes and systems to ensure the safety and support of our students. Sam has skillfully managed a significant number of applications and licensing agreements for NDIS providers, all while overseeing a thorough induction program for both professionals and our parent/carer volunteers. Sam, you are appreciated!

EXCITING 2025 EVENTS – WE NEED YOU!

We have so many wonderful events to look forward to this year including but not limited to:

  • The Art Show
  • Spanish Day
  • Junior showcase
  • Mother’s, Fathers & VIP’s Day events
  • The Walkathon

We are holding a preliminary Events and Fundraising meeting next Wednesday, 5th March at 5.30. Please use this link: meet.google.com/knx-vsrr-thb to join us. We are looking for some passionate volunteers to support the running of these events.

SCHOOL COUNCIL NOMINATIONS

School Council is comprised of seven elected parent representatives, three elected DE employee representatives, one (optional) community member and the school principal (executive officer). In 2025, School Council nominations are invited for vacancies in the elected parent category.  All elected representatives are elected for a two-year period with overlapping tenure, so that not all positions are declared vacant in any one year.  For 2025, we have five elected parent positions vacant. The need to co-opt an additional community member will be discussed and agreed upon with the newly formed council.

If you are an enthusiastic parent interested in getting more involved in the school by representing the school community or know someone who is, we would love to hear from you. Each councillor is also a member of one of the following sub-committees: Wellbeing, Events and Fundraising, Finance, Environment and Facilities. Effective councils have a broad range of experience, skills, and expertise. Face-to-face and online training is also available to help councillors develop the skills and knowledge for the job. Parents find their involvement satisfying and may find that their children feel a greater sense of belonging.

For more information on what is involved, see:  School Council Information for Parents In calling for nominations for the vacancies, please note that the appropriate nomination form is available, on request, from the school office or on our school website.  Parents can self-nominate using School Council Parent Self-Nomination Form or you can nominate a parent using School Council Parent Nomination Form. If we receive more nominations than vacancies, a ballot will be conducted over a two-week period.

PLEASE NOTE THAT NOMINATION FORMS MUST BE LODGED BY 4:00PM FRIDAY 7TH MARCH.
