Year 5 Update

Learning Highlights - Weeks 6 & 7
English: This fortnight, we have been diving into the world of narratives! Our students have been engaging in, examining, and creating their own stories. We've focused on identifying and using descriptive and figurative language, as well as understanding the structure of narratives. To further develop their skills, students have been practising with previous narrative NAPLAN prompts, preparing them to write confidently under NAPLAN conditions.
Mathematics: In Mathematics, we've been expanding our knowledge of Place Value. Our students have been exploring numbers using place value blocks, place value form, worded form, estimating, and expanding. We've also delved into the place value pattern of 3. Hands-on learning has been a key part of our approach, making maths both fun and engaging!
Humanities: Our Humanities lessons have focused on understanding influences and their positive and negative impacts on us. This has been an insightful journey for our students, helping them to recognise and reflect on the various factors that shape our lives.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL): In 5E, students unpacked our school value of kindness. Students have been practising kindness by giving compliments to each other, fostering a supportive and positive classroom environment.

- SRC Representatives: A big congratulations to our Year 5 SRC representatives who were presented with their SRC badges at assembly. Well done!
Hillsmeade Heroes: This week's Hillsmeade Heroes are:

5D: Trinity, Matilda, Siravan and Abdullah.

Device Reminder: Please ensure your child brings their device to school each day and that it is fully charged. When students do not bring their devices, it hinders their ability to participate fully in the planned learning activities. This is especially crucial as NAPLAN is fast approaching and it is an online test, and having their device allows them to participate authentically in preparation for NAPLAN.
