4B’s Contraction Craze!

This term, 4B has truly demonstrated what it means to take charge of their learning. In a dynamic lesson on contractions, students embarked on a journey to investigate how contractions are formed and to apply them correctly in their writing. Their enthusiasm and independence shone brightly as they navigated tasks using Microsoft Teams, reinforcing not only their grasp of language but also their digital literacy.

Exploring Contractions in Depth

The lesson began with an engaging mini session where the class watched an inspiring video that introduced common contractions in everyday language. A lively discussion soon followed, with students sharing when they had heard contractions used in real life. This interactive start paved the way for a deeper exploration of how apostrophes replace missing letters—as in “he’s” for “he is” and “they’ve” for “they have.” Students then took on a series of creative challenges. They first recorded words with contractions and their expanded forms in their Spelling Books after watching a second video. They then crafted their own sentences, carefully underlining each contraction, and even ventured into creating dialogues between characters that burst with life and authenticity. Early finishers eagerly delved into additional texts to spot even more examples of contractions, showcasing both independence and a keen eye for detail.

A Glimpse Into the Classroom

As Term 1 is fully in launch, it is evident that the exploration of contractions has not only enhanced students’ understanding of language but also fostered a sense of responsibility and independence that will serve them well in the future. We are excited for the continued journey ahead!
