Principal's Report

NAPLAN - Years 3, 5, 7 and 9
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. This year, students will sit the assessments at selected times from Wednesday 12 March until Monday 24 March.
NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national proficiency standards.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.
Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will complete the NAPLAN tests online (except for Year 3 Writing).
Please find attached below more detailed information about the assessments. Please contact us at the school if you have any questions about your child’s participation in 2025.
Stationary For Sale At The Canteen
We have made available a small number of items such as pens, pencils, erasers, books etc for sale at the canteen. We are selling these items for the same amount they costs the school, as the purpose is to help students to have the equipment they need. Calculators for secondary maths classes are also still available at the office.
Swimming Success
Congratulations to Joe Weston, Charlotte Gibson, and Skylar Neville on being selected to compete at the upcoming North West Swimming Carnivals. It is such a great achievement to reach this high level. Well done everyone and good luck!
I also congratulate our PSSA Zone competitors last week: Archie Sharpe, Billy Sharpe, Cooper Farthing, Jett Williams, Lola Borg, Lewis Foggarty, Nate Grace and Henry Doyle. Well done everyone!
External Providers at Uralla Central School
Our school is regularly approached by a large number of external providers to provide private support for students in a range of programs such as telehealth and from NDIS providers. These appointments are usually during school/class time. We have reached a point where we cannot accept any new providers to commence working at our school as we don't have enough spaces available. Once we have prioritised our classes and school based staff to work with students, we only have a very limited number of spaces left and these places have now been filled. I apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, we need to prioritise our teaching and learning in the first instance. Thank you for your understanding.
Congratulations Jacob
Congratulations to Jacob Toomey for his effort and achievement at the recent Combined High Schools Tennis Competitions last week. Jacob and his family travelled to Sydney for the competition where he played against other players, including one match against a 7th seed player. Congratulations again Jacob!
Parent/Teacher Meetings
We will hold parent/teacher meetings on Monday 31 March (Week 10) from 3.30-5.30pm and at various times throughout that week. If parents are unable to come along during the afternoon, we invite you to make an alternate time to meet with your child's teacher(s) during Week 10. The purpose of the meeting is to provide you with an update on their progress so far this year and to answer any questions you may have. You are always most welcome to contact the school to discuss any aspect of your child's learning. Primary teachers will meet in their classrooms while secondary staff will be in the hall.
From 5.30pm-6.30pm, the P&C will be providing a sausage sizzle so parents can meet and greet our staff. We hope you can join us!
School Photo Day - Tuesday 25 March
All students should have taken home school photo order packs at the end of last week. If you wish to order photos, please complete the information required before school photo day. Just a reminder that FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM is required for school photos.
Merit Awards
This week, we commenced handing out Uralla Central School Merit Awards for students at our Monday morning assemblies/gatherings. The merit awards are a personal award written by teachers to acknowledge student success and achievement throughout the last week. The awards are weekly awards and don't replace our more prestigious Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond system which are presented at our formal assemblies. We are looking forward to being able to use this as another way to recognise our great students and their hard work.
Assembly
Thanks to all the many parents and members of the community who came along to our first assembly yesterday. It was great to see you all come along and celebrate our students' success. Our next assembly will be in Week 10 on Tuesday 1 April.
Great Aussie Bush Camp - Reduced Cost
Thanks to a kind donation from the Uralla Central School P&C, the cost per student for the Stages 2 and 3 Great Aussie Bush Camp is now $300. Please note, this full amount needs to be paid by 11 April as per information sent home last year. I thank the P&C for their contribution and support for our students.
Have a great fortnight!
