Interview 2 Impress
Recently, the Year 12 VCE VM students had the fantastic opportunity to take part in the Interview 2 Impress program, a half-day session designed to prepare them for future employment opportunities. Staff from Price Waterhouse Coopers led mock interviews, giving students a chance to practice and refine their skills.
Throughout the day, students learned how body language can influence communication and impact their chances in job interviews. They also had the chance to hear firsthand from their mentors about their interview experiences and gain valuable feedback through informal interviews.
It was an incredibly insightful experience, and we’re proud of our students for engaging so actively and professionally. A huge thank you to Price Waterhouse Coopers for making this event possible!
Year 12 VCE English ACMI Excursion
On Tuesday, the 4th of February, the Year 12 English and EAL students participated in an excursion to ACMI to view and attend a lecture on the film ‘Sunset Boulevard’. This film is being studied in Unit 3 English and EAL and students are currently studying and analysing the text.
The students had an early departure from the University campus in order to be at Federation Square by 10.00 am. All of the students were here on time, but traffic congestion on the M1 delayed our arrival at ACMI by 10 minutes. The ACMI staff were accommodating with our slightly late arrival and made sure we were all ready for the film. All of the students commented on how awesome the cinema was and that they really enjoyed the experience of viewing the movie on a large screen in a proper cinema.
After the film, the students were involved in an hour lecture on ‘Sunset Boulevard’ and the ideas and values presented in the film. The opportunity to hear a lecture from the staff at ACMI gave the students different insights into the world of ‘Sunset Boulevard’.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to travel to Melbourne to participate in this event.
VPC Update
VPC literacy students are currently working on an extended research project. The unit is designed to teach student how to access information from relevant agencies. They have chosen a topic from several options, will research and take notes from several websites/resources, and present the document in a digital format.
In Personal Development Skills, the VPC students have been learning all about working in a team. We have looked at diversity, inclusion and respect, as they are important attributes for an effective team. Students have also been learning about resilience and how they can be more resilient.
In Work Related Skills, the VPC students have been focused on creating their own resumes. We have been looking at what is a workplace and have started to look at different workplace policies along with good mental health in the workplace.
VPC numeracy students have been working on location and direction using compass directions and the use of train/bus timetables. The learners have applied the knowledge and skills to identify locations within the University campus, using a compass and understand position and direction in terms of clockwise, anticlockwise movements while making half turns, quarter turns, three quarter turns and full turns. These skills will be of benefit when they leave Kurnai College.
In the Creative elective, students have been busy creating a wide range of slices, cookies, toasties, croissants and even fruit salad to sell to staff and students in the Kurnai Kafe. Several students have also been working in the Kafe serving customers and making coffees. It has been fantastic to see several of our students step outside their comfort zone and practice their transferrable skills that they have learnt in the classroom.
In the Community Project elective students have taken over the garden beds near the kitchen. They have harvested many chilies which have been sold to the staff. The next step is for them to research some local indigenous herbs and plants to plant. Another group have been busy creating candles to sell to the community later in the year and a third group have been busy researching how to make soap and bath bombs. A fourth group are busy planning an indigenous inspired mosaic for the school
