The Wellbeing Hub

Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

We are thrilled to once again invite your children to attend The Wellbeing Hub this year. The Hub was a huge success last year with over 800 visits!! At Galilee we understand the importance of investing in the mental and emotional wellbeing of our students so that we can nurture their overall growth and development, both emotionally and academically.

Located on our top floor in the main building, the Wellbeing Hub is a dedicated space where children can find comfort, solace and support as they navigate the ups and downs of growing up. Here, they will have access to a variety of resources and activities carefully curated to promote self-regulation, relaxation and the sharing of worries in a safe and nurturing environment. The Hub will be manned by staff throughout the day and children will be welcomed to join the space for 10 minutes, with the use of personal timers, to gain the support they need before returning to their classrooms.

Our Wellbeing Hub offers:

  • Mindfulness and relaxation techniques: Through guided meditation, yoga, breathing exercises, and mindfulness activities, students will learn invaluable tools to manage stress and anxiety effectively.
  • Sensory and tactile opportunities: Our sensory corner provides students with a range of tactile materials and sensory experiences aimed at promoting relaxation and self-soothing. From stress balls to weighted cuddly toys, students can explore various sensory stimuli to find what works best for them.
  • Creative expression: A variety of art and craft materials will provide students with a means to express themselves freely, fostering self-discovery and emotional expression.
  • Educational workshops: One-on-one or small group workshops on topics such as emotional regulation, coping strategies, conflict resolution and self-care will empower students with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate life's challenges confidently.
  • One-on-one counselling: Our in-house counsellors are available to provide individualised support and guidance to students who may require additional assistance in managing their emotions and navigating personal challenges. If you would like your child to access these supports, please email Holly Evans, our Learning Diversity Leader, at hevans@gsm.vic.edu.au

Our students may visit the Wellbeing Hub for a number of reasons including;

  • Personal, Social and Emotional sessions
  • Interventions such as Lego Club or Peaceful Kids
  • After recess and lunch, children may ask their teacher to access The Hub for 10 minutes to re-regulate or chat through any worries or issues from playtime. Spaces within classrooms can also be used for this.
  • Brain breaks or movement breaks
  • Morning visits after a tricky drop-off
  • Teachers may send a child to The Hub with their friend for some connection time
  • A small group of children explore strategies to navigate conflict, friendship issues etc
  • Parents/Guardians reach out and ask for particular support

All children check in upon arrival; however, if your child attends The Wellbeing Hub, you will not receive a notification. We use check-in data to identify usage patterns and take appropriate action when necessary. If we identify anything significant, we will reach out to parents and carers to communicate accordingly.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to the wellbeing of our students.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
