Year 3 & 4
Around our level
In Year 3 and 4 over the last couple of weeks we have been practicing for cross country. We have been running and/or walking around the oval and through some different routes across the school. These workouts are building our students’ cardiovascular endurance, helping them sustain energy over longer distances, which will be helpful for Cross Country at Lilydale Lake.
Cross country training also helps in developing mental wellbeing and resilience. We have noticed that our students are thoroughly enjoying their morning run and enjoy the opportunity to also mix with the other 3/4 classes. Regular running practice helps improve pacing, making it easier to judge when to conserve energy and when to push hard. We have been working on how many laps we can run, whilst maintaining a good pace.
The benefits of cross country practice extend beyond just physical fitness. It builds discipline, as training requires a consistent effort. It also promotes camaraderie among teammates, fostering a sense of community and shared goals which has been great for our level. In addition, running outdoors, often in nature, can enhance mental wellbeing and boost mood, so it has certainly been a great way to start our mornings before our formal learning!
