Sports News

Welcome to Sport for 2025. There are numerous sport events in the forthcoming weeks.
The School Swimming Carnival is on Friday 14 Feb at Scone Pool. All students have received a Compass notification with details and permission to be completed. We welcome all parents to the carnival to enjoy the day. St Joseph’s carnival is typically a day full of enthusiasm and participation. Students who are successful in being placed first or second in events will qualify for the Diocesan carnival on Tuesday 11 March at the Forum pool Newcastle.
Sport Choices have been issued for Years 8-10 and will be completed on Thursday 13 February. Year 7 students will be involved in a rotation of activities with the exception of Rep Rugby League and Soccer players – both Boys and Girls who will train during sport. We are very excited to announce that we received a “Sport in Schools” grant at the end of last year to conduct a basic skills AFL program as part of the Year 7 program this term. Please note there is a change in procedure for paying sports, money will be collected at the venue not prior to boarding the buses for Muswellbrook sport. Please ensure students carefully consider their sport selection carefully including non paying and paying options as changes cannot be made throughout the term. A reminder that students cannot walk home from Muswellbrook venues after sport, they can only be picked up by parents or nominated person after a note has been approved at school. Sport as per sport choices will commence on Thursday 20 February. A reminder that a school hat/cap are compulsory for school sport and PE and students are encouraged to bring their own personal water bottle.
The following sport registrations are due in the forthcoming weeks:
All Schools Individual and Team Triathlon registration close 19 February.

The open Boys and Girls Rugby League trials are a paper trial with registrations closing on 14 February. Students to attend these trials have been selected by our school Rugby League coaches.
Please note students who attend Diocesan and/or NSWCCC trials are expected to have a representative background and meet the criteria/guidelines for the specific sport. Registrations are not to be completed online BEFORE approval from the Sport Coordinator - Alison Tilse. The relevant school sport coaches will be involved in the approval process.
Please check both Compass and the newsletter for sport details of events and registration. It is essential that students continually check Compass for sport notifications and when meetings will be held. Please do not hesitate to Contact Alison Tilse – Sport Coordinator if there are any questions or concerns about sport.
An outline of how to register and where sport information can be found is shown below.
Maitland-Newcastle Diocesan Sport Website
There is a Diocesan specific website for Sport that has all the dates for Diocesan sport as well as general information about the sports.
The Maitland/Newcastle Secondary Tile allows parents to view basic information for secondary pathway sports including Diocesan event information and details, Diocesan results, the Diocesan sports calendar and important notices for sports including wet weather information. The sports that are on the Diocesan website include swimming, athletics, cross country, netball, league, football, touch, AFL and gala tennis, golf and basketball. All other sports have information on the csnsw.sport website as students apply directly to NSWCCC for these.
Any further questions beyond the sport specific information on this website should be directed to your school Sport Coordinator.
No parent should register their child for any sport without seeing the school Sport Coordinator. Sport Coordinators approve all pathway sports before progressing.
