STEM
Week 2
STEM for 2025 kicked off last week, with all students completely a series of engineering / construction challenges. These included building structures with only straws and blu-tack, using wooden stacking stones to re-create towers pictured on cards, and using toothpicks and blu-tack to create a ladder.
These were great resilience building lessons for our students. It was wonderful to see positive relationships on display during these tasks, including some students wanting to challenge themselves further than what was expected. During reflection time, some students mentioned how and why they worked well with each other, as well as how they were feeling at various points throughout their lessons.
Week 3
Foundation students commenced their unit of work on living things. They explored the difference between living and non-living things and learnt how all living things need food, water and air.
Grade 1/2 students started their unit of study on dinosaurs and their key features. We had some very excited grade 1/2 students this week as they got to draw dinosaur pictures and label their key features.
Grade 3/4 students began their unit of work on living and non-living things.
Grade 5/6 students commenced their learning about adaptations, by selecting three animals to research about their specific adaptation.
For classes that had a second STEM session, they completed some engineering rotational activities – paper rockets and skeleton bridges. Grade 1/2 classes also continued to discuss their emotions / feelings when completing their STEM challenges.
Donations of any unwanted newspapers to the STEM classroom will also be appreciated.

In The Artroom
It was a great start to the new year with classes commencing this week in the artroom.
How awesome was it to meet the new Preps and see them happily and enthusiastically engage in the art activities!
All grades have started the year with a new art sketchbook to encourage them to use their time to create an art folio/journal throughout the year during art. Having a 50 minute block for Art is very beneficial as the students really get to ‘sink their teeth’ into the activity, brainstorm ideas and formulate a plan for the work. A very positive start all the way round!
Our new art captains, Arlo Buck and Lyric Samuel will be helping with running art club on a Tuesday lunch as well as awarding certificates during the Friday assemblies, along with many other helpful duties. I’d like to congratulate Arlo and Lyric on their new position within the school leadership.
Art club will be on a Tuesday lunchtime and certain grades will be allocated their own timeslot.
Art extension will commence again this year on a Wednesday lunchtime, where certain students will be chosen to participate in extension programs, developing their art skills even further. This again will be run in grade levels.
Artist of the week awards go to:
- Ella Richardson
- Casey Menzel
- Scarlet Hoppitt
- Oliver Harris
- Archie Stewart
Well done to everyone on a great first week!
