Celebrating Book Week and Literacy

We are excited to celebrate Book Week next week! This year's theme, ‘Symphony of Stories’, offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy, imagination and learning that reading brings.

Throughout the week, students will have the chance to explore and enjoy a selection of CBCA shortlisted books.

On Tuesday 25 August, we will hold our Book Week Dress-Up Day, when students and staff are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character. We look forward to seeing the wonderful and creative costumes!

On Wednesday 26 August, students will have a Student-Free Curriculum Day. Staff will continue the important work we have been undertaking to strengthen our whole-school approach to Comprehensive Literacy. We are also pleased to welcome Helen Tainsh, who will be working with staff to explore ways we can support all students to develop as writers.

We know that literacy is a foundational skill that enables people to increase their independence and autonomy. Literacy is a life skill that is applied across all areas of learning, including everyday and functional life skills.

It has been exciting to see students using their literacy skills in authentic and meaningful ways through our new applied learning spaces, including the student kitchen and Mini Woolworths

These environments provide opportunities for students to apply their learning by reading and following recipes, writing shopping lists, reading labels and using literacy skills in real-life situations.

We look forward to an exciting week of stories, creativity and literacy learning!
