This Week At OOPS

Year 3 Camp
HUMPTY DUMPTY, TAKE NOTE!
Old Orchard students put their engineering skills to the ultimate eggs-amination.
CAN DORIS AND BORIS FLY? 🥚
The crowd was hushed. The tension was high. The eggs were nervous.
Welcome to the Whole School Egg Drop Challenge, where every class was given one egg and one simple mission: drop it from two yes, TWO whole metres without recreating Humpty Dumpty or an omelette!
Entering the arena for 3MP was Boris, while 3AC pinned their hopes on Doris. Once firm friends, the challenge transformed them into fierce, fragile, featherless foes!
Teams pitched their designs, debated the merits and searched for possible CRACKS in their thinking. Each class voted for its best design and construction began. There was padding. There was engineering. There was an alarming amount of sticky tape. There was much cheering!
Then Year 6 testers Oscar and Ariana stepped up. Measurement tools, clipboard and many scissors in hand to extract the broken and bleeding OR just maybe, the whole egg at the end.
The competitors looked down. Below them were the splattered remains of earlier attempts. No amount of wiping had hidden the fact 2 metres is a looooong way.
Could Boris and Doris hold it together under pressure?
Up went Boris in his contraption.
THREE… TWO… ONE… DROP! THUD!
A nervous inspection followed … much scissoring and cutting and unwinding …
BORIS SURVIVED!
The crowd went wild! Boris had stared gravity in the face and refused to be scrambled.
Next was Doris, would she see another day?
THREE … TWO … ONE … DROP! THUD!
An optimistic but fearful inspection followed … again much scissoring, cutting and unwinding …
DORIS SURVIVED!
An egg-cellent effort involving teamwork, creativity, problem-solving and some seriously impressive engineering.
And Boris was already asking when he can try three metres?
So, Boris and Doris can fly. Humpty Dumpty, a distant relative, would be proud. 🥚

Have you seen the colourful makeover at our Prep entrance? We’re delighted with the bright new mural that has been painted along the ramp, adding a vibrant and welcoming touch to this well-used area of our school. The bold colours and playful design are a wonderful way to brighten up the entrance and create a cheerful welcome for our youngest students each morning.
