NAIDOC DAY
Narrandera High School Celebrates NAIDOC Day 2026
On Wednesday, 5th August, Narrandera High School proudly celebrated NAIDOC Day with an engaging and memorable program filled with cultural activities and community spirit. As part of our school's commitment to recognising and honouring Aboriginal culture, students participated in a rotation of exciting activities that offered hands-on experiences and meaningful cultural connections.
Students enjoyed traditional games led by John Ingram, Logan Ingram, Viv Christian, and Trinity McDuff, where they learned about Indigenous sports and pastimes. The thrill of spear and boomerang throwing was expertly guided by Richard Gilbert from Narrandera Public School, providing a unique chance for students to engage with important cultural skills. The Sandhills team hosted bush tucker cooking sessions, which included making emu spring rolls and johnny cakes, always a hit! This offered insights into traditional Aboriginal foods, while Malek Afuamua Lyons led students through traditional dance, sharing the rich movement and storytelling of Aboriginal culture.
The celebrations were complemented by a delicious bush tucker lunch, which included kangaroo pies, sausage rolls, kangaroo curries, curried sausages and also a BBQ lunch, allowing everyone to come together and enjoy the day. We extend a massive thank you to all who ran these wonderful activities. Special thanks to Simone Ingram from Narrandera Public School for supporting the day and bringing Year 6 students to join in the celebrations. Gratitude also goes to Bodean Tereva from Leeton High School for his support on the day.
We are deeply appreciative of the Elders and community members who joined us in celebrating NAIDOC Day. A heartfelt thank you to all staff and students whose enthusiasm and participation made the day a great success.
This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC and 50 years of Deadly – a significant milestone that invites all Australians to celebrate Aboriginal culture and heritage. NAIDOC Week is a special invitation from the Aboriginal community to connect, learn, and celebrate together.
Narrandera High School is proud to have hosted another successful NAIDOC Day, demonstrating our ongoing respect, recognition, and celebration of Aboriginal culture.
We look forward to continuing this important tradition for many years to come.
