Junior School Assistant Principal Report

Term 3 in Junior School

It has been a very busy and productive term for Years 7-9 students at Lyndale Secondary College. Students have been working really hard across the term in continuing to improve their knowledge, skills and understanding across the curriculum and have had the opportunity to demonstrate their growth during their common assessment over the past fortnight.

Families will have the opportunity to review their child’s progress this term by viewing their Term 3 Progress Reports via compass on Friday 15th of September.

There will also be time to discuss your child’s progress with their teachers on the 16th of October at Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences. Bookings will open via compass in early Term 4.

Students have also been enjoying our fantastic new outdoor facilities during breaks. In week 3 we were able to open our newly furbished outdoor basketball and tennis courts, where students across the College have been able to socialise together through sport and recreational activities.

Our year 9 students have in particularly been busy across Term 3 as they enter their final stages of junior schooling. Year 9’s have recently completed their city experience educational program, where they spent a week in the city discovering sites and exploring activities in culture, arts, sport, transport and living. They have also been deciding upon their pathways for senior school with pathway selections for the journey into Senior School in 2024.

Year 7 and 8 students have also had to pick their Language choice (Year 7) and electives (Year 8) for 2024.

We hope all students and their families have an enjoyable school holiday period, stay safe and rest up before heading into the final term for 2023.

Year 9 City Experience

The City Experience program is designed to support our students in building the skills required to successfully navigate their way to adulthood. Each day provides opportunities for students to build responsibility and confidence, travel on public transport with increasing independence, participate in a range of new experiences, and build independence. Our wonderful young students were fantastic in the way in which they represented the Lyndale community in public, always demonstrating the College values of respect, respect and resilience.

Subject Selections for 2024

Students in Junior School should have now entered their preferences for courses/subjects in 2024. Please see outline below of what students in each year level need to complete. If your child is yet to complete their selections for 2024, please contact their Year Level Coordinator.

  • Current Year 8 Students- Need to select 4 Arts/Technology/Language electives for Y9 in 2024.
  • Current Year 9 Students- Need to enter their preferences for Y10 courses in 2024.

School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB)

School Wide Positive Behaviour is a framework that brings together school communities to develop positive, safe, supportive learning cultures. SWPB assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for young people.

Lyndale Secondary staff have been working with students in implementing SWPB across the College effectively. By doing so, we aim for teachers and students to have more time to focus on relationships and classroom instruction. Students and staff benefit from:

  • increased respectful and positive behaviour
  • increased time focused on instruction
  • improved social-emotional wellbeing
  • positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
  • increased adoption of evidence-based instructional practices
  • a predictable learning environment with improved perceptions of safety and increased attendance

Please see the matrix below that is located throughout the school and used as a framework in supporting students to demonstrate the College values across the Lyndale community. This matrix has been developed with the input of students and staff and reflected upon within the classroom, to highlight when students are positively demonstrating these values. This matrix has also been a core framework used within the homegroup social and emotional learning programs, to foster and encourage respectful relationships and communication.
