Active School Lunchtime Sports Programs - Term 2

New Courts Opened

It was with great joy that we finally opened our new courts to Lyndale Students early on in  Term 3. It has been amazing to see so many students using them during recess and lunchtime.

The courts will allow us to have magnificent outdoor classrooms to run activities for all our Year 7 -12 PE classes.  The images here show some of the activities we have done so far on the courts.  Can I remind students to use these facilities respectfully and ensure all rubbish is placed in the bins outside the courts. Also reminder no sitting on tennis nets too.

We were also lucky enough to get some off cuts of synthetic turf so students can design their own  9 hole indoor mini golf course. The students have loved taking ownership of their own course designs.

Bike Education at Lyndale

We have been working hard to integrate and use our relatively new bike fleet within our Year 9 PE Sport and Recreation unit.

The purpose of this unit is to:

Introduce bike education and safety to Lyndale students so they build confidence and encouraged students to use this mode of active travel to school. This further promotes our ’Tag On‘ system.

  • Develop an understanding of the need for constant scanning and practise in a simulated environment.
  • Ensure students understand why it is essential to wear clothing that helps them be visible to other road users.
  • Develop basic riding skills, including:

– riding in a straight line

– riding with one hand on the handlebar and making hand signals

– braking

– scanning

– slow riding

– sharp turns

– riding on different surfaces.
