VegePods: $5000 grant from BNDCE

Tuesday the 12th of October, Green Magpies attended the The Bendigo Northern District Community Enterprise Presentations Night to receive our grant money - a total of $5,000!

The generous grant, which was given to us after some of our Green Magpie students (Neveah, Ruby, Isabella and Elsie - see the photo above!) went along and presented on Epsom's behalf. They did a WONDERFUL job and were successful in securing the funding. This was put straight towards some...drum roll...VEGEPODS!🎉

These fantastic garden bed designs will help us grow our plants more successfully, safely and sustainably through the frost and bug-resistant covers, as well as the self-watering hoses. The Prep grades are going to be trialling the first use of the Vegepods and we are looking forward to seeing them in action once our Sustainability Centre is underway!

What's been happening?

We have done some vegetable harvesting (our broccoli was amazing!), weeding of lots of different garden bed areas around the school, soil preparation, watering (including of of bush block plants) and planting of new seeds ready for the next harvest down the track!

We also completed our end of term 'Checklist' on the last day of Term 3, which involves Green Magpies roaming the school and ensuring all lights, heaters, powerpoints, and unnecessary power sources are all turned off in preparation for the 2 week break.

Inspecting our new gear! Wheelbarrow, gloves, labels for our seedlings, sugar mulch and more!
