Last week we settled back into our learning routine and revised the difference between fiction and non fiction texts in Literacy. We also learnt about compound words, the theme or moral in a story and the sounds made by th, wh, ch, sh and ng. In Maths we revised numbers to 20.
This week we learnt about the sound made by ou, ow, ir, er, or, ur, ph and o/u words such as glove. We had a lot of fun learning about procedural writing and the importance of being explicit in our instructions. In pairs we tried to make a vegemite sandwich to eat. We literally had the jar of vegemite on top of the butter container and bread! We eventually got a delicious vegemite sandwich each, after altering our language! In Maths we revised subtraction using number lines, counters, drawing pictures and counting back from 20.
Students of the week
Last week the students voted for Sophie as our Student Of The Week. Students said Sophie was very respectful and always treated her classmates respectfully and kindly.
This week Ziggy was voted in by the students. Students said Ziggy was very responsible, getting down to work straight away and completing all her learning tasks, being a great role model for our class.
Well done Sophie and Ziggy; we are very proud of you.
A reminder that Preps will be celebrating Grandparents Day on Friday 27th of October. Grandparents/ special people are invited to come into our room from 9.00am-10.30am.
We would like to say goodbye and good luck to Mrs Beilby who will be leaving our school for a tree change in Bairnsdale. Thank you for all your dedication to Bunyip primary Jess, helping students, staff and parents to be the best possible version of themselves. We will really miss your guidance and passion for education. Thank you also to Jag for all the jobs you have done around the school. We wish Jess, Jag, Will and Georgia all the very best of luck in their new adventure.
Grade One Two
Welcome back to all our families. We hope you have had a restful break. This week we have been beginning our assessments in preparation for reports. Miss Stoll and myself have been so impressed with the high level of work the students have presented. Our week started with some beautiful sunshine, and it was nice to get outside to do some learning. Well done to everyone who remembered hats for term 4!
As we revisit the topics we have covered this year, we remind our students to keep bringing in their reading diaries with nights read. We also encourage the use of Reading Eggs at home also. I have heard there are a couple of students who have mastered and completed all the Maps in Reading Eggs. This is an astonishing achievement. We have also been learning about alliteration, here are some examples of students work.
Here are a couple examples of work around odd and even numbers students were keen to share.
Student Achievers.
Congratulations to Luke for being our achiever in 1/2 Beilby. Luke is a standout student. He always follows our school values and is a terrific role model and support to his peers. Luke always goes above and beyond in class. He is always ready to learn, he is organized and wants to achieve success. Luke is the kindest friend and always thinks of others. He is there to lend a hand and no task is too great. I am so proud of Luke and how he continues to strive for his personal best in everything he does. Well done.
Congratulations to Noah M and Jai for being our student achievers in Ms Stoll's grade! Your resilience, responsibility and respect is outstanding and I am so proud of you both.
We would like to wish Mrs Beilby the absolute world and more as she embarks on her new adventure. Your presence in our lives this year, prior years and at Bunyip PS as a whole.
You have taught, inspired, motivated, loved and supported us every single day and we could not thank you enough.
We will all miss you dearly, however know you will continue to do amazing things.
Personally, from Ms Stoll, I would like to thank Mrs Beilby for believing in me and inspiring me to believe in myself in my first year of teaching. I will remember the role you have played in shaping me professionally and personally forever.
Here's some of our alliteration poems from this week!
