SMASHED

On the 23rd of August, the Year 8’s had a performance group come to our College. They did a performance that educated young people on the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption, as well as how to party safely. We took the reins on the performance, telling the actors how to end particular scenes and how to look after themselves in certain situations. Thank you so much to the crew from Smashed for coming along on this day for us.

Year 10 Amazing Race Japanese excursion

Our Year 10 Japanese students from Kings Park and Sydenham campuses attended ‘Amazing Race excursion’ in Melbourne CBD on Wednesday, 23rd of August. Students were working in small teams to following clues and answer questions in Japanese at check points for approximately two hours. All check points were Japanese themed, such as Japanese clothing and stationaries shops, restaurants, cafés and etc.

In our Term 2 unit on the life in city and country, students learned how to describe their city and neighbourhood in Japanese. They also developed skills to ask for and give directions. Students applied their knowledge to real-life experience to find the places by following directions.

All teams showed good teamwork skills and successfully completed the race.  The winning team was one of Kings Park teams, Noelle, Helen, Minjoo and Christina, who finished the race with the most correct answers in the shortest amount of time! Congratulations and well done!

The Amazing Race activity was a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding of the content covered in class, as well as to develop an appreciation for the impact of Japanese culture in Melbourne city.
