A Spectacular End to Term 3!
The NPS School Spectacular Presents this week's Leadership Report.
Last weekend, our Spectacular crew performed at the John Cain Arena. The show was absolutely fabulous and our stars had the best time! All the hard work throughout the year and the days before the show (dress rehearsals) paid off! Amazing work! Congratulations!
What a way to finish off the term! The classrooms have been filled with so much art, crafts and the delicious scent of a Chilean bakery. All the students have been building their understanding of Chile and our cultural celebration event Fiestas Patrias over the last week. We had our new Spanish Consulate Education Advisor Andreas visit us during the week who couldn’t believe what he was seeing in the classroom. We look forward to seeing everyone at our special end of term assembly at 1:30pm today. Please remember that school finishes at 2:30pm!
The F/1s students have been looking at world maps and learning more about Chile and all of its different regions, cultural events, animals and famous landscapes. Make sure you have a look at the super maps and student animal designs in F/1 Azul. I was lucky enough to try one of the incredible empanadas/alajores that F/1 Armillo were serving, there is some serious culinary talent in our F/1 Azul area and there were some very creative eating techniques taking place!
Our 2/3s have been making Chamanto (traditional ponchos) in their classroom and have been practicing ordering food off a Chilean menu. Karren’s classroom has been a hive of smiles and flour as all the students have made sopaipillas. I can honestly say I have never seen so much sweet potato in my life. The students have all been very enthusiastically preparing and practicing for their cultural dance which everyone will see at today’s assembly.
Our 4/6s have learnt about the famous Isla De Pascuas as well as other important landmarks in Chile, the traditional owners of the land and key figures in Chile’s history. They have also been making kites, banderinas and watching Chilean kids programs. They also have organised a two-day trip to Chile. Is there a better way to learn about culture than traveling to the actual place? I think not!
I would like to say a big thank you to all the students, teachers and families for their support over the last two terms with an extra special mention to both Graeme and Jess. I am proud of what our school values, its bilingual program and its desire to further improve. A big congratulations to our incredible 2023 Foundation students on a fantastic first year and our Grade 6 students who finish the end of primary school. It has been a pleasure to work with you and incredible to see you grow into such resilient, confident, unique individuals over the last 5 years. We are excited to see what is next for you all. A big thank you to some of our Grade 6 families who are leaving our school. Thank you for providing us the opportunity to work with your students and trusting us in being a part of your child’s social, emotional and academic growth. Make sure you stay in touch!
I look forward to seeing everyone again in Term 1 2024.
Thanks, Luke
