Out and about with

Mrs Giggins

We have juggled wind, rain, puddles and hail  these past few weeks so it's been wonderful to see our students enjoying the sunshine in their broad brimmed hats as the week draws to a close. With only two weeks to go until our Fresh Food Fair on Friday November 3rd, our fingers and toes are crossed for perfect weather. It's an exciting event in the life of our school and we are so grateful for those who have volunteered so far. I encourage everyone to book in a time to help out.

SWIMMING

Congratulations to the students who have completed their ten day swimming program and developed their swimming skills and water confidence. Living so close to the surf, being able to swim is a vital life skill.

F2, Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5 are all swimming this week and next week.

BASKETBALL

Last Friday the grade 6 girls travelled to AWA stadium in Belmont to play in the District Basketball Competition. First, we played Ocean Grove Primary and although we started strong the game got away and we unfortunately lost. We won the next two games which meant we were in the semifinals. We played St Therese in the semi final, but we unfortunately lost. We then got to play off for third or fourth spot and we won our game, which meant we finished 3rd overall out of 8 schools for the day. We all enjoyed the day and had lots of fun. We especially want to thank Christian Sanderson for giving up his time to come and coach us for the day.

Congratulations to the team and thanks to Mrs Wolfe as well for assisting on the day. A great effort!

SURFSIDE BAND

Our talented school band performed to a large audience at GPAC on Wednesday and

were very excited to participate. Thanks to Mr. Morzinek for teaching the band each week and supporting them on the day.

"When we arrived at GPAC, the nerves got to us. We were amazed by the stage. We were second up and the first act were amazing. We were back stage and we could barely see the audience, but we could hear them.

It was finally our turn to go on and we performed ‘Save your tears’, ‘Darkside’ and ‘Dog days are over’ . The crowd was so big but it was so fun. It was a such a good experience. Thank you to all the band members and Mr Morzinek."

ART PROJECT FOR GEELONG NATURE FESTIVAL

Our Grade 4’s have been lucky over the past six weeks to be involved in the 2023 Geelong Nature Festival ‘Our Backyard’ with a special school art project. The aim of this project was to engage students and their families to learn about the landscapes of our region and the plants and animals that live here too. We decided to decorate a large-scale plywood animal (supplied by the City of Greater Geelong) from our region. Please see our decorated Southern Fiddler Ray that students worked very hard to design and decorate. We are so proud of our work and thank Clancey for sharing this opportunity with us.

Our Southern Fiddler Ray will be on display on Sunday 29 October as part of a large-scale outdoor installation created as part of an event at the Geelong Botanical Gardens from 9-11am. Please feel free to go the following link

MR WALSH

Mr Walsh are his family are still having an amazing time exploring the sights of Amer.

They have travelled through Denver, Boulder,  San Francisco, Yosemite National Park and Palm Springs and even enjoyed an NBA game!

ARE YOU MOVING?

As we start to prepare for the 2024 school year, please let us know as soon as possible if you plan to be taking some extended leave for travel, are moving or changing schools.

Also if you have not yet completed enrolment forms for younger siblings starting school next year please do this as a matter of urgency.

GEELONG CUP DAY HOLIDAY

A reminder that Wednesday October 25th is a public holiday for Geelong Cup. There is no school on this day.

Referendum BBQ Helpers, Thankyou

A huge thank you to the parents, staff and students who came along and helped at the BBQ on Saturday. Coles, Ocean Grove kindly donated all of the sausages, bread and onions and as a result we made $1200.

We acknowledge that the referendum has been – and will continue to be – a sensitive topic with deep, personal meaning and it is important that we continue to engage with each in a respectful and considerate way. There will be different responses to this outcome. Please reach out if  support is needed.
