Nationally Consistent Collection of Data

Deb Robins

This term, our staff have collated data to participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with a Disability.

‘The NCCD is an annual collection of information about Australian school students with disabilities. The NCCD enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disabilities and how they can be best supported at school.’

Teachers collate data about students in their class who require an adjustment to access education due to a disability. They determine the level of adjustment (support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary adjustments, substantial adjustments or extensive adjustments), and then classify the type of disability (physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional).

We collect this data at a school level, and then submit it through the Department Data System.

On a school level, we are able to use this data to inform how we work as a whole to ensure we have the practices and resources to cater to the needs of all students.

These adjustments can happen through any aspect of school life and can happen at a whole school level, a classroom level or individually.

We have explored this data in Education Sub-Comittee and at School Council.

Through our 2023 data, we can see the diversity in the learning needs of the students at BNWPS.  Almost 20% of our whole student body could be placed under the category of disability. It was also made clear the large number of adjustments we make at a whole school level through our baseline practice to ensure all students have access to education, as well as the additional adjustments at classroom and individual levels as needed.
