Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

YEAR SIX CAMP.

Thank you to our staff (Mrs Walker, Ms Edmonds, Mrs Supra, Mrs Maciel, Mr Truong and Mr Swan) who put together a wonderful camp experience for the year 6 group recently down at Dwellingup. The weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the group which participated in a number of outdoor activities including rock climbing, a flying fox, team building and rafting activities.

It has been a wonderful fortnight to see examples of students shining in a range of areas.

  • ASSEMBLY- Congratulations to room 12 and Ms Richards on their great assembly. Our students in year 1 spoke very well and did a great job in front of an audience.
  • MATHS- The students in the older years have been working on their tables this week as part of the TT Rockstars competition. This program focusses on developing and improving automatic recall of tables. Several of our students have received certificates in recent weeks for their weekly efforts leading up to this event. Thank you to Mrs Walker, staff and parents who have been encouraging students to undertake this program online.
  • MUSIC - On Tuesday, after four months of practice before school, recesses and at home, a large group of Music students and choir under the direction of Mr Kaloczy entertained us with a number of songs, ensembles and individual instrument pieces. Thank you to Mr Kaloczy for providing the opportunities for the students to hone their skills for this music performance. They were quite amazing!
  • ATHLETICS - On Thursday, 43 students represented the school at the Interschool Athletics. Congratulations to Ms Foster and Mr Truong and thank you to the other staff who assisted. Well done to the team for their efforts and to those who won age level medals. White Gum Valley Primary School were successful in winning the trophy on the day. Our school has now won this award four years out of the last five which is a great achievement!
  • VISUAL ART - On Thursday afternoon the town hall was used to display artwork from schools in the district. The Gwenyth Ewens Art Awards have been running for many years. This year 21 of our students entered pieces. Thank you to Ms Henderson for encouraging our students to enter and complete pieces for the event. The display of work from our school was outstanding. Congratulations to Charley and Emilia who both won an award as well as a rosette for their interpretation of historical features around Fremantle and to Lily, for the Judges Choice award.

BASKETBALL PROGRAM.

The Cockburn Basketball Association have approached the school offering a six-week basketball program that would run after hours once a week for 45 minutes. The cost for the course to families would be $92.66. The program, called Aussie Hoops, is also running in a few other local schools.

If this may be of interest to your child who is between the ages of 5 and 10, could you look out for a survey that will come home today?

P&C AND YEAR 6 FUNDRAISING.

Thank you for your support of our recent fundraising ventures. The Quiz evening raised $8540.00, Open Night $2242.00, Muffin sale at school $779.00 and Band night $4410.00. Well done to everyone involved with these events.

POLLING BOOTH.

Our school will be a polling booth on Saturday 14 October for the Referendum. The art room will be turned into a booth on the day. The P&C is planning to operate some food stalls for the community.

HAZEL ORME.

Put Sunday 29 October in your diary as it is the 100th Anniversary of Hazel Orme. The number of community kindergartens have reduced over the years. Our Hazel Orme has been a wonderful facility providing early years education to children in the Valley.

The facility, owned by the council, is a very special place for the education of Kindy aged students.

Congratulations to the Parent Committee and staff who have put together a really exciting day. One not to be missed!

TERM FOUR.

School will be closed for the Term Three Break from Saturday 23 September. Staff will return on Monday 9 October to undertake various professional development activities.

Students will commence on Tuesday 10 October.

On behalf of staff here at school, have a wonderful break over the next two weeks with your families. Enjoy the warmer weather.
