2023 Drought Resilience and Innovation Challenge

Throughout Term 3 Certificate III in Agriculture, students participated in the 2023 Drought Resilience and Innovation Challenge during their theory class. The Challenge required students to identify and explain an innovative tool, system or solution that would increase the resilience of Western Australian farmers in a hotter, drier and more variable climate.  Students could work individually or in groups and choose to present their ideas in a written or presentation format.

On Tuesday 19th September, students presented their innovative research/ideas to a panel consisting of Tanya Kilminster (Knowledge Broker SW WA Drought Hub), Graham Ellis-Smith (Community Representative) and Dean Pfitzner (Acting Principal).

Ideas presented included a portable dairy, new species of drought-resilient plants and other innovative water storage and water-use efficiency methods. Thank you to Tanya, Graham and Dean for volunteering their time to be on the selection panel.
