Middle Unit -2/3

We’re into the final Term of an amazing year in the Middle Unit. We can’t believe how fast it’s all gone. It was wonderful to have the students back this week. It sounds like everyone had a wonderful and restful break with lots of wonderful activities. It has been delightful to see how enthusiastic and positive the students have settled back into class this week.

A reminder for next week that our Year 3 students on Monday the 9th of October will be going to the Carlsruhe Campus for a Transition Morning. They are expected to arrive at school at the normal time (before 9AM). They will then go to their normal classrooms, have their name marked off on the role and then leave on the bus to Carlsruhe at approximately 9.15AM

Year 2 students will be doing their normal school program at the main campus.

We will also be holding a parent information session at Carlsruhe on Wednesday 11th October at 6pm for all current Year 3 families. This session will provide an opportunity for you to experience the campus, understand the different roles, responsibilities and expectations students will have and learn a little more about the 1:1 Bring your Own Specified Device program.

In reading the students are looking at different types of characters and their internal and external traits. The had to look closely at specific words and phrases that the author used that helped them visualise what they pictured of the character in their head and explain how this effected the story. This has led to some great discussions between the students and their different interpretation of personality types and descriptions of well known characters.

In writing the students have begun learning how to create their own characters for a story they will be producing later on in the term. This was closely linked to our work in Reading with the students being required to map out their own characters personal feelings, looks, and motivations that will have a great impact on the story in the weeks to come.

In maths we are starting our time unit this term. The students have begun by telling time on analogue clocks in 15 minute intervals. The students have enjoyed creating their own personal timetable based on their favourite day in school where they wrote each activity and the time it takes place in various formats include analogue, digital and spoken or written words.

We have also started our wonderful unit of work with Digital Technology. This term the students will be learning about coding, 3D modelling, digital design and robotics which will all closely link to our work in Literacy and Maths.

There are some great pictures of the students exploring the programs below.

We look forward to another fantastic term of fun and learning in the 2/3 cohort.
