Year 7 ACC Hockey Premiers

Congratulations to the Year 7 hockey team, who won the Premiership last Thursday!

After a fantastic unbeaten season, they went on to beat Parade 2-1 in a thrilling Grand Final. We believe this is the first time a St Bede's College Year 7 hockey team has won the Premiership!

The players all represented our College wonderfully. The goal scorers in the final were

Co-Captains, Harry Edwards and Campbell Evans. Well done team!

Year 7 ACC Table Tennis Premiers

Our rematch with Parade last week was equally exciting, with St Bede’s down 4-6 after the 10 singles matches, meaning we would have to win four of the five doubles matches.

After the 10 singles matches and four doubles matches, the score was 7-7 and there was one match finished off. It was 2 sets all and 6 all in the final set. We pick up play with St Bede’s up 10-8 in the 5th and final set with two match (Championship) points…

St Bede’s victorious winning the final set 14-12 after saving two match points for Parade.

The finals score was St Bede’s 8 matches (35 sets) defeated Parade 7 matches (40 sets)!

Well done Beda!

ACC Div 1 Cross Country

Beda Spirit is at an all-time high as we celebrate winning the ACC Div 1 Cross Country for 2023! We managed to win the U13, U14, U15 & U17 age groups on the way to victory.

As we know, the road to victory isn't always a smooth one, so we managed to throw in a couple of dramatic moments for maximum effect - the most notable being one of our competitors (Edward G.) racing 4km with just ONE shoe, due to a foot-related mishap both pre- and during the race.

Special congratulations to the following individual efforts:

Ted Bitting - 3rd U14

Sam Gibson - 4th U14

Michael Monaghan - 1st U15

Martin Steyn - 3rd U15

Gab Incani - 2nd U17

Edward Gibson - 3rd U17

Xavier Wallace - 5th U17

And our thanks to the many students who jumped in at the last minute to replace some late withdrawals and ran really well. Go Beda!

ACC Senior Chess Tournament

On Thursday 17 August, 15 students from St Bede’s College took part in the annual ACC Senior Chess Tournament (Years 10 to 12) held at St Patrick’s College Ballarat.

The day was action-packed with 7 rounds of very intense Chess concentration conducted in a competitive and professional manner. All of our students won at different rounds and performed outstandingly well throughout the tournament!

Our College team came 3rd out of all the schools present and narrowly came 5th in the overall category for the Division A competition – just two points away from second place. Incredibly, two of the top teams were again dominated by Mazenod who had two very strong/experienced teams in A Division.

An individual highlight was Chess Captain Herschel FitzRoy finishing in 8th place out of 170 students - a remarkable effort to make it into the prestigious top ten!

Congratulations to the team for their stellar efforts!
