Student Wellbeing

R U OK? Day

On Friday 15 September, St Bede's College is marking R U OK? Day.

It's a great reminder that EVERYDAY is a good day to check in with friends, family and colleagues to see how they really are doing. Because not every day feels like a great day for everyone. And we all struggle with the challenges of life and mental health from time to time.

By taking the time for an R U OK? conversation and genuinely listening with an open mind, we can all help the people in our world feel supported and connected.

Let the people in your world know you’re here, to really hear, because a conversation could change a life.

A reminder for our students that by simply wearing yellow as a symbol on this day, we encourage our College Community to look out for each other and ask: R U OK?

Health and PE Week

Last week, we celebrated Health and PE Week across both campuses. The week was a great success, achieving our intended outcomes of promoting healthy lifestyles, maintaining a healthy diet and participation in physical activity.

The theme this year is ‘Good for Children, Good for Schools, and Good for Communities’.

It was great to see students getting involved in fun lunchtime activities and increasing their awareness of the importance of a balanced diet and eating two serves of fruit a day, as well as the benefits of leading an active lifestyle on their health and wellbeing.

Our Bentleigh East students were treated to free fruit at recess - very popular! - as well as taking part in fun quizzes. A huge crowd assembled on the outside courts to witness a thrilling finish to the Beep Test “Beat the Tape in Pairs” competition.

The novelty of organised Netball competitions, Beep Tests, Penalty Shootouts and AFL Longest Kick competitions definitely added excitement to lunchtime breaks.

Congratulations to all students who participated in the lunchtime activities, and in particular to winners below.

Kilbreda Leaders vs. St Bede's College Leaders Netball ReMatch (Mentone Campus)

After a great display of skill by our Year 12 leaders from Kilbreda and St Bede's College, the Beda Spirit proved too strong and took the win by 2 goals, 17 to 15 goals.

Well done to all players and staff involved!

Elephant Ed (Bentleigh East Campus)

To cap off Health and PE Week, guest speakers from Elephant Ed visited our Bentleigh East Campus to facilitate student workshops about consent, respectful relationships and sexuality education.

These workshops send youthful, relatable and highly trained facilitators to deliver interactive, informative and engaging workshops to schools about topics that address 'the elephant in the room.'

Our Year 8s took part in a session on Safe Partying, which looked at risk-taking behaviour, peer group pressure, making healthy decisions and drug awareness.

Year 9s participated in a workshop on Sex and Social Media, which explored topics relating to consent, respectful relationships, bullying, responsible and respectful use of social media and the law.

These workshop sessions offer a safe space for students to ask questions and learn about important information in an engaging way.
