Year 11 Psych/Bio Zoo Excursion Newsletter Item

Creating Futures Together

The Year 11 Psychology and Biology students enjoyed a wonderful excursion to the Melbourne Zoo recently!

The Psychology students were studying “Ethical Concepts and Key Science Skills” and participated in two sessions – one unpacking the key concepts through a case study, and the other a research investigation task collecting qualitative and quantitative data on the Orangutans. This formed the basis of their Scientific Investigation Poster, and we were very fortunate as the zoo teachers were both very informative and excellent hosts.

The Biology students were studying “Adaptations and Bioethical Concepts” and participated in two sessions – one discussing the adaptations and bioethical issues of the Southern Corroboree Frog, and the other a quantitative data collection task on various species of Butterflies. This helped consolidate student learning of the different types of Adaptation and a segue into their Bioethical Issue task in Term 4.

We would also like to send a big thank you to Mr. Molan and Mr. Pousoulis for accompanying us on the day!
