DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD
DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD
We have had record numbers of students complete their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award this year, and our first ever Silver award recipient! Well done to Abbey Nicholls for this wonderful achievement.
To achieve the award, our students participated in regular community service. Thanks to Korumburra Primary School, Karmai, Vinnies Op Shop and Carinya who all hosted our students. Our students also delivered Meals on Wheels every fortnight, making strong relationships with older members of our community.
A range of projects were produced in Advance class to meet the requirements of the Skill component of the award. We had magazines, peer support programs, Greek Mythology presentations, Plant growing guides and Environment presentations all prepared. The standard of projects this year was very high.
Our two camps this year were both run in challenging weather conditions, however students demonstrated a high level of resilience to embrace these challenges with a smile. Our practice journey to Phillip Island was great fun; visiting the Caves, the Penguin Parade and spending time exploring Cowes. The students organised the activities for our Qualifying Journey to the Mornington Peninsula; arranging a visit to the Sea Eagle – Arthurs Seat Chairlift, Point Nepean National Park and an interactive visit to the Moonlit Sanctuary at Pearcedale.
This year, our Duke of Ed program was part of the elective Advance, but next year we are expanding Duke of Ed to be available to any interested Year 9 or 10 students. We also have a number of students who achieved their Bronze award this year and who are hoping to achieve their Silver Award next year. If you are keen to be involved, please keep an eye out for information early in 2024.
