The Kings/PLC Regatta was attended by 70 rowers over the weekend. The event was marked by several outstanding performances, with the Year 10 Schoolgirl Four and the Year 9 Schoolgirl 3rd Quad stealing the spotlight.
Year 10 Four Triumphs with Exceptional Performance
One of the standout moments of the regatta was the victory of the Year 10 Four, who dominated their race by winning with an impressive lead of 5 lengths. The crew, expertly stroked by Kaiti Smith, exhibited wonderful boat rhythm, teamwork and skill, leaving a lasting impression on the spectators.
Year 9 Girls 3rd Quad's Incredible Comeback
The Year 9 Girls 3rd Quad demonstrated unparalleled determination and resilience by rowing up an age group and clinching victory after being in 4th position at the 500m mark. Stella Davis, Zara Bruem, Grace Storer, and Lucy Baldwinson, coxed by Ingrid Sobotta, showcased their tenacity by rowing through the entire field to secure a commanding win by 15-seconds.
Noteworthy Performances in Girls 1st and 2nd Eights
In a competitive field, the Girls 1st Eight secured a 3rd place, a solid result for this crew sprinkled with youth. The 2nd Eight delivered an outstanding performance leading from start to finish in what was dubbed the 'race of the day,' securing a well-deserved victory and highlighting the depth of talent within the Kinross Wolaroi Rowing program.
Kinross Wolaroi was well-represented in the U16, U17 and U19 Men's Quads, further emphasising the club's commitment to fostering talent across various age groups.
Looking Ahead to the State Championships
In the wake of the Kings/PLC Regatta, the dedication and commitment of our rowers shined bright back at Spring Creek. We had half of our NSW State Championships squad stay back under the tutelage of Adam Harrison and James Perrin. With a united front and a shared aspiration for triumph, our selected rowers are poised to make an impact at the State Championships this coming weekend. All the best to the NSW State Championships Squad this weekend in Penrith.

The triathlon season has started and students demonstrated that they have been working on their fitness over the summer. Training at Gosling Creek on the bikes and in the school pool, is always going to be challenging but the students are dedicated and willing to accept all challenges.
Mrs Katrina Flynn has joined the coaching staff and we have farewelled Mrs Penny Chandler, who has actively led the program for the past five years. Everyone was sorry to see Mrs Chandler step down but they are eager to work with Mrs Flynn.
The image below is from Saturday's Parkrun, a hot morning with both the weather and the times. Tim Lowther is currently holding the Kinross Wolaroi Parkrun season's best but Sam Commins is hot on his heals as is Will Ward. Watch this space.....

It has been great to see basketball back in action with training and games in full swing.
There have been a number of new starters to the program and I encourage that if there are any issues, concerns or queries to email me directly via ltaylor@kws.nsw.edu.au. Before players can play in the Orange basketball competition they must be registered. I will provide a link for this and instructions if you need this.
Just a gentle reminder that during trainings all players are required to wear Kinross Wolaroi sports or training gear and wear a hat and bring a drink bottle. The conditions of late have been hot and its is best practice to have sun protection and water available for trainings.
In the event of challenging weather conditions training will be modified to suit the conditions. Please pay attention to trainings, games and transport on the Basketball Hub page as this is where all relevant information will be posted. If there are changes they will be posted on this.
Please can all communication go through your coaches if you are absent and please provide a documentation as to why this is the case. It is a requirement that you attend two trainings and a game each week and if you are unable to attend you will need an exemption.
I would like to wish the 1st Boys and Girls good luck in the Western Associated Schools tryouts this coming Tuesday where they will play games against other schools in the area and from this a WAS team will be selected to participate in a competition held in Sydney. Further information will come out regarding this.
Please remember that the way that you train and prepare for games is the way that you will play. So train hard, do your best and enjoy the success of your efforts.

Week 2, Term 1
As the Australian summer of cricket was in full swing, our players continued to represent the school brilliantly. At the close of the school term, Kinross’ First XI were placed on top of the competition ladder, and had a job to do to maintain this position over the summer holiday break. Over the holidays, the team played four fixtures, managing to win all but one match. Many players travelled considerable distances to play, some staying overnight to ensure their spot in the team. These results are a testament to the willingness of our coaches Matt Byrne and Walter Prowse in developing our First XI squad over the past three months, and to the hard work of our players – many of whom began preparing in the Winter Training sessions in Term 3.
In some individual performances over the course of the holidays, two young Kinross cricketers earned distinguished representative honors. Fletcher Byrne (Year 9) earned selection in the Country NSW ‘Bradman Cup’ cricket team. The Bradman Cup is a competition which takes place annually between each Country Zone across NSW. Fletcher was this year the only player of his age to be selected in the team. Alongside Fletcher, Phoebe Johnston (Year 9) earned significant recognition for her hard work, being selected in the Country NSW Under 16 Female team. Phoebe is this week competing for NSW in the National Championships, held in Hobart.
During the holiday period, Kinross also played host to fixtures in the Orange District Cricket Under 13 and Under 15 Western NSW ‘January Carnivals’. Kinross’ two turf wickets played host to matches over two weeks in January to cricketers from all over NSW and the ACT. A number of Kinross players represented Orange, and our grounds staff worked tirelessly to present the school and prepare wickets for the community during this time. A massive thank you to Wes and his team for their continued support of both Kinross Cricket, and Orange District Cricket throughout the season.
Throughout week 1, our Opens squad booked their place in the third round of the Douglas Shield competition, with a strong win over Macquarie Anglican Grammar School (MAGS) Dubbo. Strong batting from Fletcher Byrne (41) and Angus Pengilly (47*) saw Kinross over the line, to chase down the required 116 runs for victory. Kinross remains in both the Wiburd Shield and Douglas Shield competitions, and will play their third round fixtures in the coming fortnight.
Kinross cricket remains healthy, and we look forward to an exciting end of the season for all teams over the coming weeks.
