Shrove Tuesday

Next Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday or 'Pancake Tuesday'. This is the day before Lent begins which is traditionally a period of fasting. To celebrate the day each class will be having some pancakes.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is the first day of the season of Lent. This year it falls on the 14th of February. This day marks the start of Lent for Catholics which is a solemn time of prayer, almsgiving and fasting.

On Ash Wednesday we will be having a whole school liturgy where students will receive ashes in the shape of a cross on their foreheads. This ritual is an outward sign of faith. We invite all members of our school community to our Ash Wednesday Liturgy in the hall at 2:30 pm.

Project Compassion

This week, the season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. This year St Augustine's will be holding 'Coins 4 Caritas' to support this cause.

Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.

We invite you to give to Caritas Australia this Lenten season and help vulnerable people around the world, now and for all future generations. We will be collecting coins in Project Compassion boxes located in classrooms and the school office during Lent.

With your support, Caritas Australia has been able to assist communities around the world through income generation, water and sanitation, food security, education and disaster risk reduction programs.

Project Compassion 2024 reminds us that the good we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. Together, we can help vulnerable communities face their challenges today and build a better tomorrow.

Beginning of Year Liturgy

We welcomed our new school year on Friday of Week 1 with our first whole school gathering for the year. Led by the School Captain, Faith Leaders, Sustainability Leaders and SRC Leaders our liturgy focused on showing love and kindness for everyone in our school community.

Each classroom was given a candle to use throughout the year on their prayer table.

Education in Faith around St Augustine's

This Term classes are exploring the concept of 'identity'. Here are some examples of learning activities classes have been doing, including creating prayer mats to use each day during prayer.

Sacraments

Last year an Operoo went home to all families of Grade 4-6 students regarding sacraments in 2024. All families who responded to this by indicating they wished their Grade 4 to be enrolled in the sacramental program have received an update on the upcoming Commitment Mass on the 25th of February.

If you did not respond to the original Operoo or have a child in Grade 5 and wish to have them receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in 2024, before they are Confirmed in Grade 6, please contact rbishop@safranksth.catholic.edu.au

Faith Leaders

Our 2024 Faith Leaders are Matida and Dominic. We look forward to them supporting and leading our school in liturgy and prayer this year.
