Senior School

Welcome to Week 4. Since we have last written, the students have been busy settling in to the routines and structure of the Senior School. Students have been busy with daily reading, writing and numeracy sessions. Pheonix Soar has continued and we have had some mixed results with Interschool Sport.

 

Persuasive Writing

In the last two weeks, students have been focusing on "Hooking The Reader" during their introductions of their Persusasive Writing. Students have been experimenting with Rhetorical Questions, Startling Statistics and Intriguing Statements, to keep their target audience wanting more!

Reading

Students have been making connections on world issues and local problems based on Non Fiction Texts read. They have been making links between La Nina, the Amazon Rainforest and bush fire risk in Warrandyte. Students have been revising responding to texts by creating summaries and opinions with evidence from the texts.  

 

 

Numeracy

Students have been focusing on "What are Numbers?" The have either been investigsating place value; from millions to thousandths or  investigating Prime and Composite Numbers, Square and Square Root Numbers, Triangular Numbers and Cube numbers while exploring base and index numbers. 

 

Interschool Sport

Interschool Sport has commenced for 2024. Please ensure you child comes to school with a water bottle and hat.

Grade 6 to Year 7 2025 Transition

 

To assist parents/carers of students moving to a government school for Year 7 in 2025, the department develops information packs with guidance to support effective placement.

 

All Victorian primary schools will distribute the Year 6 to 7 Placement Information Pack 2024-25 to all families of Year 6 students in the first week of Term 2 (Week Begining 15 April).

All parents and carers of both Gr 6 and Gr 5 families, should take the opportunity to visit secondary schools during open days / organise a school tour.

 

NAPLAN

NAPLAN is a national assessment that tests students' ability in three domains of literacy—reading, writing and language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)—and in numeracy.
