Foundation (Prep)

Literacy

In Term 1, students are introduced to each letter of the alphabet and we practise both the correct formation of the letter and the sound that it makes. You may have heard your child say little chants. These are used to help them remember the many different sounds. I have made a list of the letters we have practised so far so you can help your child at home.

Ants on apples - a, a, a

Cats drive cars - c, c, c

Ducks dive down - d, d, d

Five fat fish - f, f, f

Girls giggle - g, g, g

On the orange - o, o, o

Quick quiet queen - q, q, q

Seals swim seals slide - s, s, s

These letters were introduced as a family because they are all written with the same anti-clockwise motion. The next family of letters are i, l, t and b and the chants are as follows:

In the igloo - i, i, i

Lizards like lollipops - l, l, l

Trotting tigers - t, t, t

Bounce balloons - b, b, b

Maths

In Maths, we have continued to practise counting and learning the correct formation of numbers 1-10. We have delved further into patterns and have practised copying, making our own and recording patterns.

We have also talked about the months of the year and when our birthdays are. We made fish to put in our birthday fish bowls so we can celebrate our classmate's birthdays each month.

The magic show was a highlight this fortnight and had the students in fits of laughter. Our friend, Elyssa, was a star in the show.

It has been wonderful to see all of our Prep students feel so comfortable playing in the school yard. We thank our buddies and older brothers and sisters for helping and including us in play.

Please note that we have school photos next week on Thursday, 29 February.

Happy Friday!
